the note

Deja vu is a funny feeling. It leaves you with the strangest inkling of thoughts in your head. The well informed notion that you're repeating history. History that should not be repeated. Someone once told me that if you always go back to the same tree in the forest, you'll forever be lost.

Well, Adrien was that tree.

His words weighed on my mind for the rest of the day, and into the following. How could he sit there — right in front of me in class — and look like that. I wanted to scream at the gods for how cruel they were being. Sure, I was supposed to save the world, and him, but how was I supposed to save him? How was I supposed to go about my day, pretending not to love him, and pretending I don't know about his impending doom.

See, if I went with my feelings — if I dated him, it would most likely end horribly, causing him to go all Chat Blanc again. I reminded myself that Chat Blanc technically didn't exist—he was a figment of my tortured imagination.

The main component of this plan was to avoid him at all costs, yet somehow help him (as Chat Noir), and Ladybug, defeat Hawkmoth —aka his father. It was a simple plan, per se, but all the factors kept moving and shifting. It was impossible to keep up.

Chat boy was doomed.

I laid my head down on my desk just as said Chat boy turned around to look at me. His familiar smirk and those all too knowing green eyes met mine in a rush. He threw a piece of paper at me. I caught it in my right hand, narrowing my eyes slightly.

"Y/N L/N, hand that note over at once," Ms. Mendeliev snapped, cracking her ruler against the chalk board. I sheepishly handed it to her as she made her way up the aisle, ignoring Adrien's panicked gestures.

He turned bright red and covered his face with his hands as she opened it.

Beside me, Marinette's eyes went dark. "You and Adrien?" She whispered, nudging me painfully in the side.

"Ow. No," I denied it, looking back at Ms. M.

She cleared her throat two times.

"No, please don't," Adrien begged.

"Y/N, you should—" she started to read, but then the bell rang, saving Adrien and saving me from a day of eternal embarassment.

"L/N should be punished for this," Chloe mocked from across the room, slamming her hands down on the table. "She shouldn't be allowed to get notes from my Adrikins. It's just not fair." Chloe's puckered lips turned down into a pout and she glared at me, pointing an accusatory finger in my direction. "Her and baker girl are just so ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous. Wait until I tell my FATHER what awful classmates I'm forced to be with everyday."

"You're the awful one, Chloe," I snapped back, sending her a rude gesture when Ms. M had turned away, the note stowed in her pocket.

Even though I kind of wanted to know what it said, I didn't want it read aloud in front of the whole class, so my suspense was worth it.

Everyone began clearing their stuff away into their bags. Marinette avoided eye contact with me as we exited the room. The second we left the classroom she began to sprint to her next class, but she was met by a rude awakening as Chloe threw a shoe at the back of her head.

"BAKER GIRL!" Chloe screamed down the hallway as Mari turned around, rubbing her head. "Come back here this instant!"

Mari glared. "What do you want, Chloe?"

"Just to tell you that Adrien will never love you," She smiled coyly. "Y/N's made sure of that by...what did the note say?" To my horror, she pulled it out of her pocket. She must've bullied Ms. Mendeliev by threatening to fire her.

"Fucking hell, Chloe, mind your own business for once," Adrien said as he breezed by her, deliberately bumping her shoulder.

Chloe shrieked annoyingly, wrinkling her ugly-contoured nose. "I never mind my business, Adrikins, especially when it comes to you."

"Fuck you." Adrien kept walking.

"Oh yeah?" Chloe's expression changed and she smirked slightly. "Though I'd much rather you do that to me, it sounds like you want to do that to Y/N."

At this point a whole crowd had gathered, simultaneously trapping me and Adrien in this social circle of drama. He looked dismally annoyed, while Mari had a pitiful expression on her face.

"Mari, it's not like that," I assured her, but she didn't look anywhere near convinced.

"Then how is it, Y/N?" To my surprise, she turned to Chloe. "What does the note say, Bourgeois?"

"I'll gladly tell you!" She opened her mouth. "Y/N, you should g—"

"EVERYONE GO TO CLASS!"

Thank. God.

Guys don't worry, this time I'll actually tell you what the note says. Just wait for the next chapter.
