A journalist looked up from his laptop. He was in deep thought as he took a short break from eying the recent evidence his coworker, Patricia, had sent him.


He had been collaborating with some of his coworkers, some of his friends. They had been investigating the New Zoo that had opened up recently. Patricia had noticed people disappearing over the last month and had brought it to their attention. Collectively, they had considered every possibility from murder to transforming them into the animals which filled the zoo. Patrica had gone to investigate a few days ago and honestly, that was concerning him.


"She's always been rather eager," thought John, having come to admire Patricia's determination. She was always trying to get to the truth. John took a moment to stare at his phone, noticing his recent messages still hadn't been responded to.


"Perhaps too eager," said John as he looked around his office. Since Patricia had brought them together John had been gathering any information about the Zoo he could. He had managed to amass a considerable amount of articles promoting the New Zoo. It seemed as if a new article was printed every time they acquired a new animal.


"I wouldn't be surprised if Haley wrote those articles" mumbled John, recalling how Haley had ignored their investigation, writing it off as nonsensical. "I imagine that's her dislike of Patricia shining through," thought John sarcastically. He looked back to his notes, finding a disturbing pattern developing.


He had begun to cross-reference the articles regarding the additions to the New Zoo with the missing people's pages. The growth of the missing people pages was startling, especially when paired against the additions to the New Zoo.


"I know this city's not the safest place but...I feel the possibility should still be considered" wondered John as he looked back at his notes. To his displeasure, Patricia and Tyler had recently shown up on the missing person articles. The timing between their disappearance and the recent articles showing off the new Elephant and Orca Whale felt rather uncanny.


"If something is going on...I'm glad I covered my bases" mumbled John. He had gone into hiding following the disappearance of his coworkers. He sighed as he remembered what he had to protect, why he had to hide.


As John continued to wander within his office, someone was listening in from behind the door. Andy sighed, shaking his head as he chose to leave John to his theories. He headed downstairs, hearing the mail coming through the mailbox.


"Wonder what it is today? Perhaps something other than bills" thought Andy sarcastically as he headed into the shared kitchen area. He noticed the mail in a small pile at the door as he picked it up, walking over to the nearby table as he sat down.


"Bill, Bill, Spam Mail, Bill" mumbled Andy, noticing his girlfriend Mindy within the corner of his eye. Like Andy, she was also sceptical of John's theories and investigation but as long as he paid the rent, she could put up with, as her boyfriend summed it up, a conspiracy nut.


"Anything interesting?" asked Mindy, her bright green eyes shining down. She shifted some of her ginger hair out of her face. "Nothing Mindy, just seems to be bills and..." replied Andy, noticing an unusual letter. He eyed it with interest, noticing the elaborate decoration of the letter. Upon further inspection, the letter had come from the New Zoo.


Andy looked over the letter once more, noticing it was addressed to John. He thought for a moment, shrugging his shoulders before he began to open it. Mindy's eyes widened as she watched her boyfriend.


"Andy, what are you doing?" said Mindy, keeping her voice quiet to not draw attention.


"Have you heard all the theories John comes up with? I highly doubt he'll ever open this" replied Andy, noticing Mindy's expression calm.


"I guess you have a point" conceded Mindy as Andy continued to open the letter. He reached into it, feeling something which he pulled out to show to Mindy.


It was two free passes for a tour of the New Zoo.


"Well, I know now John will never use these," said Andy, a small smug expression on his face. He felt mildly amused at the small pout Mindy gave him in return.


However, Mindy's pout was soon replaced with a wide smile. She always loved animals and had been looking forward to the official opening of the New Zoo. However, now she'd be able to get a sneak preview of the Zoo before it officially opened.


"Ok" started Mindy, taking the passes as she inspected them closely. Her smile widened as she looked down at her boyfriend. "Feel like doing something spontaneous?" asked Mindy, Andy quickly picking up on the hint.


"Anything with you Mindy" replied Andy, standing up as he suddenly swooped Mindy into his arms. He kissed her as Mindy returned the kiss. The pair enjoyed the moment of intimacy before they got up.


Andy then quickly headed to the front door, grabbing Mindy by the hand as the pair felt their excitement increasing. Mindy grabbed their car keys as they quickly exited through the front door.


The pair got into their car, Andy turning the ignition as the excitement Mindy was feeling was becoming contagious. They proceeded to drive towards the zoo and unknown to them, they would not return.


Meanwhile, back within the shared kitchen area, a woman looked around. She shifted her blond hair slightly, looking around the area. Lauren had overheard the commotion from Andy and Mindy and knew they had left to go somewhere.


"It's good to see them love each other so much," thought Lauren, blushing slightly. She had taken notice of their newest roommate and found herself developing feelings for him. "If only he'd come out of his office more often," said Lauren as she headed towards the fridge.


"At least he pays his share of the rent, unlike our last roommate" mumbled Lauren as she noticed some eggs. She smiled as she decided to prepare an omelette for her lunch.


"Perhaps John would appreciate one as well," thought Lauren as she prepared to get to work. She continued to cook, blissfully unaware that in a few short hours, her life was going to change course significantly.


One Hour Later:


Andy and Mindy walked under the stone archways of the New Zoo. The sun was shining down brightly, making the temperature feel rather pleasant as the pair walked into the Main Hallway.


"It got rather sunny all of a sudden, didn't it?" said Andy, running his head through his brown hair. He was internally thankful that he had worn a t-shirt today which was a bright sky blue colour.


"It certainly did, but I'm sure it'll cool down soon" replied Mindy, smiling as she looked around. Andy walked alongside his girlfriend as the pair soon approached one of the nearby enclosures.


They looked inside curiously as a nearby sign indicated that the enclosure was intended for the Gorilla. In addition, the sign indicated the Gorilla's name was Coconut. Mindy smiled as she noticed the gorilla within the enclosure coming towards them.


Coconut eyed the pair curiously. He had been feeling rather lonely recently within his enclosure. He felt that the enclosure was rather large for just himself and he had been longing for a mate. His attention was soon focused on Mindy who was staring curiously at Coconut.


Coconut beat his chest, noticing Mindy smiling warmly. She laughed softly as she was finding the Gorilla more and more...alluring.


Andy noticed the entranced state Mindy was in as he felt rather confused. He thought back to what he had overheard from John. Despite the weirdness of the situation, he dismissed the thought.


"Mindy?" said Andy, feeling a small sense of concern. Fortunately, Mindy seemed to snap right out of whatever trance she was in. She turned to face Andy, the pair not noticing Coconut's look of 'disappointment.'


"Andy, you ok? You seem spooked" replied Mindy, her expression full of concern.


"Yes. sorry" said Andy, giving a small smile as Mindy felt reassured, her features calming. She looked around the nearby enclosures, noticing that some of them were empty.


"It'll be good to come back when the Zoo completes its collection, won't it?" said Mindy, trying to change the subject. She noticed that Andy still seemed uneasy.


"I agree," said Andy, continuing to look around the Main Hallway. He felt himself calming as he noticed Mindy's smile widening. She was loving having the day out with her boyfriend. While Andy was not enjoying the Zoo to the same extent as Mindy, he'd be lying if he said he wasn't enjoying it.


"How could a place like this be evil?" thought Andy, the thoughts of John's theories coming back to him. He dismissed the thought once and for all as he noticed Mindy walking towards one of the nearby enclosures. Andy followed her, noticing a nearby sign indicating the enclosure was intended for wolves.


Coconut watched the pair leaving with disappointment. He headed deeper into his enclosure, hoping he would get a mate soon.


Mindy looked into the wolf enclosure. She felt a minor tinge of disappointment as she noticed the enclosure was empty. Mindy loved wolves, she wished they were in today as Andy looked at her. He didn't like to see Mindy look so down.


"It's a shame the wolves aren't in?" mused Mindy, continuing to stare into the rather beautiful enclosure. She smiled bittersweetly, knowing the wolves would adore the enclosure once they arrived.


The enclosure had large saggy rocks scattered throughout the enclosure. It had a waterfall that could be used as a drinking source or could be used by the wolves to bathe in. Above the rocks was a cave in the enclosure which was elevated upwards slightly which would give the wolves an easy view of the outside of the enclosure and the people looking in. The ceiling was made of clear glass allowing sunlight to shine in and glisten against the waterfall, creating a rainbow in the reflection.


"Still...the enclosure appears perfect for them," said Andy, trying to lighten the mood as Mindy looked back at him.


"I'm glad we were able to spend a day out together," replied Mindy. She quickly turned towards Andy as she kissed him. Andy returned the kiss as they enjoyed the moment in bliss together. They were so entranced in their love that they didn't notice someone walking towards them.


The woman was wearing a uniform which indicated she worked for the Zoo. She had short red hair which had been recently combed. A pair of glasses adorned her face, covering her eyes entirely. She smiled as she had managed to partially overhear Mindy's disappointment.


"Well, it won't be long before we have wolves within our collection," thought Charlotte as she smiled, looking over her checklist once more. She had been informed by Rebecca that these two had been investigating the Zoo in regards to the recent disappearances. She smiled as she looked forward to being the one to eliminate the opposition.


"Hello?" asked Charlotte, noticing the pair break from their embrace to look at her. Mindy noticed the woman was of medium height, coming to her chest. "My name is Charlotte and may I ask why you're here today?" enquired Charlotte, already anticipating the answer.


"Oh, we're here today because we received free passes in the mail, and my name is Mindy," said Mindy, introducing herself as she showed her free pass. Andy did the same as Charlotte barely gave them a second glance. She smiled despite her slight confusion.


"Surely, they should be more suspicious if they're investigating us," thought Charlotte. Something didn't add up here. Nevertheless, the Zoo could do with a few new additions anyway.


"Would you be interested in looking at anything in particular?" enquired Charlotte, straight at the pair as she awaited a response. Mindy looked back to the wolf enclosure for a brief moment before turning back to face Charlotte.


"Do you have any wolves in?" enquired Mindy, her expression curious. Charlotte smiled briefly as she looked over the pair. They certainly would make good additions.


"Yes, they just came in this morning" replied Charlotte, noticing Mindy's smile widening. Andy seemed happy as well, genuinely curious to see the wolves himself. "I can let you in the enclosure if you wish to meet them up close" offered Charlotte.


In response to the offer, Mindy was clearly ecstatic. "Oh, can we please?!" replied Mindy enthusiastically, turning to face Andy. Andy chuckled as he nodded in agreement. Charlotte smiled as she led the pair to the back door to the Wolf enclosure. Charlotte opened the door as she motioned the pair to walk inside.


Mindy quickly dashed in, clearly excited as Andy was not too far behind. Once they were inside and looking around, Charlotte quietly closed the door. She then locked it behind them, leaving the pair to their fate.


Mindy and Andy looked around the enclosure. They admired the scenery, it somehow looked even more fantastic up close.

Lauren was currently preparing something for her dinner as she heard rummaging up the stairs. She heard someone coming down as she noticed John approaching the shared kitchen area.


"Long day?" asked Lauren, giving a small smile. She could feel her heartbeat increasing as she felt rather warm at seeing him.


"Yes," said John simply, sitting down on a nearby chair. He looked around curiously.


"Where's Andy and Mindy?" asked John.


"I don't know. They went out earlier, not sure where" replied Lauren. John looked around, noticing a nearby opened envelope. He checked the envelope, his expression unchanged as he recognised it as coming from the developing New Zoo.


"Has Andy been looking through my mail...again?" said John, deadpan in his tone.


"I guess" replied Lauren, finishing preparing her dinner as she offered some to John. John nodded, accepting the offer as she shared her dinner.


John continued to think as he ate, concerned for Andy and Mindy. He decided to wait on it for a few days. Hopefully, it was just his paranoia getting the best of him for once.


Meanwhile, Lauren smiled warmly. She glanced over towards John as she felt her heart fluttering. She felt a realisation cross her mind as her smile widened slightly.


"Wait...I'm in love? I'm in love!" thought Lauren joyously, savouring the moment as she continued to eat her dinner.

Charlotte was currently admiring the wolves once again.


"They still look rather beautiful," thought Charlotte, her thoughts beginning to drift as she noticed the wolves laying on a rock outside the cave, looking outside for any observers.

"Still, she needs to learn to control herself," thought Charlotte, recalling the incident with Jason. Elizabeth had gone maverick, Rebecca had never intended to transform him. However, the deed was done, resulting in a new giraffe for the Zoo.


"Fortunately, there have been no consequences this time. I'd hate to clean up after her impulsiveness...again" continued Charlotte, recalling the past they shared for a brief moment.


Charlotte's thoughts were distracted as she heard yelling nearby. She turned around, noticing Rebecca and Elizabeth approaching her.


"Hi girls, what's up?" asked Charlotte, confused as to the sour expressions on their faces. Elizabeth looked sympathetically as Rebecca scowled at Charlotte.


"You didn't get the right person," said Rebecca simply, eyeing Charlotte's reaction.


"Wait...what are you talking about?" asked Charlotte, feeling rather confused at the situation.


"Our target is called John" started Elizabeth, pointing towards the new wolves. "They...are called Andy and Mindy. Hence, you missed" finished Elizabeth.


Charlotte was still rather confused by the situation. Elizabeth felt a sense of sympathy as she looked at her best friend.


However, Rebecca was having none of it.


"We sent the passes to this John guy, so why is he still out there!?" demanded Rebecca as she got in Charlotte's face. Charlotte backed up, a little scared by Rebecca's anger.


"That's impossible, you didn't...tell...me," said Charlotte, defending herself as she began to feel faint. Before she could stop herself, she collapsed. Elizabeth quickly rushed up towards her, catching her friend as she lowered her gently.


"I think you should go," warned Elizabeth. Rebecca stared at Elizabeth for a moment. She decided there was no point arguing with Elizabeth as she threw her hands up in the air. She began to storm off, clearly not used to something not going to plan.


"That's...kind of like Charlotte actually," thought Elizabeth, comforting her friend. "Still...she said Rebecca didn't tell her something. How much is Rebecca not telling us?" continued Elizabeth as she took a moment to stare at the new wolves.


"They do indeed look majestic" thought Elizabeth. She continued to comfort Charlotte, looking down at her. "We should form a plan but...who is Charlotte loyal to?" wondered Elizabeth, laying her best friend down gently.


"Perhaps...I should keep the anomaly I discovered to myself" thought Elizabeth, recalling her recent discovery. She knew that Rebecca was hiding something but right now...she had to play along.


"I'll begin to put something together and if Charlotte is not involved...then we can work together," thought Elizabeth, recalling the times they had worked together in the past.


It'd be just like old times, they did it once and they'd do it again!
