SageI haven't slept since Wednesday night. We have mini exams for the unit we're studying on Monday. So I've been up studying for hours since Wednesday. There's no class until these exams are over which is good, allows us to focus. And I took off my usual Friday shift to ensure I had enough time to study because I can't fail these exams. It's like 20% of our grade.
I function well on no sleep. (I don't at all). It's about eight in the morning, Saturday. I'm in the kitchen making my hundredth cup of coffee.
As I begin to make a cup Ty walks into the kitchen. Leans against the opposite counter. Stares at me.
"Yes?" I ask as I turn to look at him. Coffee now in hand.
"Where did you and Jada end up going Sunday night? You never told me?" He tilts his head. He has that tone he uses when he's trying to catch me out in a lie. Questioning but also accusing all in one.
"Just out." I avoid his eyes. I can't lie. Ty knows that. He always knows when I'm not telling the truth.
"Where?" He presses
"Why?" I look at him, raise an eyebrow.
"Just want to know." He shrugs nonchalantly.
"We went for dinner." I lie. Hate that I'm lying to him but if he knew the truth he'd be so angry.
He sniffs a laugh, nodding his head. "Dinner." He whispers to himself.
Looks up at me, shakes his head sort of in disbelief as he smiles.
"So this is what we're doing now? Keeping secrets and hiding things?" He asks me.
"What do you mean?" I'm confused
"You know what I mean Sage don't act fucking stupid." His voice is snappy. He's impatient.
"No? I don't?" I'm confused to say the least. There's no way he could know.
"You hanging around with a fucking gang leader. Him turning up outside of your university, you two going on fucking dates!" His voice starts to raise.
How did he know? How did he know any of it?
"What—how do you—"
"Ray told me. He saw the two of you the first time and then recognised him the second time he came to visit. As for me finding out about your dates and who your little boyfriend really is, that was easy. You don't think after hearing some guy's visiting my sister I don't look into him?"
"I already got all of the information I need to know about who he is. As for knowing about your date. We have cameras outside our house sage. Not hard to track his car with that information." He says as if I'm stupid.
I remain silent because I'm speechless. Of course I knew my brother was crafty but I didn't know to what extent. I didn't know just how many connects he had , how easy it was for him to get information.
"What the fuck was you thinking!" He shouts.
"Huh?!" He tilts his head
"Do you know how fucking stupid it is to do what you're doing? How dangerous it is? He's a fucking gang leader Sage. A gang leader. And you're going out with him. After I bend over fucking backwards to keep you safe!" He snaps
"Ty—"
"What makes this shit worse is that you fucking kept it from me! What if something fucking happened on that date? What if his rivals or whoever the fuck it is decides to attack him. You're there you get hurt and I don't know shit about it because my little sister thinks she can just go off and do what she wants!"
