Wes"We could just not go in there?" I suggest to my little brother as we get out of my car and walk towards the door of our parents house.
"Unfortunately we can't avoid dad forever. And mum really wants to see us." He states, rubbing his hands together due to the coldness and crispness of the November air.
"We can invite mum over?" I suggest. Nothing is making me want to go into the hell awaiting for me inside that house.
Dad's already heard about the job being messed up. And knowing him, he's furious. Naturally he's going to blame me first, being the one in charge of the business and being the elder.
"Come on, let's just get it over with." Kane sighs patting my back before he walks up to the door and rings the bell.
Neither mum or dad answer the door. Thomas, who mum and dad employed years ago opens it. He's been apart of the household staff since I was five. Good man.
"I'm very grateful to see you right now Tom." I let out a sigh of relief patting his shoulder.
"Hey Tom." Kane flashes him a smile patting his other shoulder as he also steps into the house.
"I wouldn't be too happy boys. Your parents are already at the table waiting for you two." He reveals
Kane and I look at each other. Usually mum greets us or we walk into the living room to find her sat at the tv watching her housewives show.
"What kind of facial expression did dad have? Does he look pissed?" I ask desperately.
"Pissed is an understatement Wes." He smiles awkwardly.
"Can't we just go back home? They don't even know we're here yet?" I ask my brother.
"Pull it together." He glares at me.
Thomas gestures for us to walk through to which Kane immediately does. He would be able to, seeing as he's not the one about to get scolded. I begrudgingly follow him in, bracing myself for yet another traumatic family dinner I'll have to recount to my therapist when I decide to get one.
"Remind me to shoot you when we get home." I whisper to my brother as we walk through the corridor towards the dining room.
"Cute how you think you'll be alive to do so once dads finished with us." He sasses.
I huff, rolling my eyes as we finally enter the dining room. It's a sight alright. Mum and dad sat at the table, looking at us. Straight faced. Dad's narrowed eyed. Elbow on the table, hand under his chin. I can feel the tension from where I'm stood at the door.
"Hi boys." Mums voice is quiet. She gets like that when she feels uneasy. Usually around dad when he's in one of his moods.
"Mum." Kane walks over briskly, bending down and planting a kiss on her cheek. She pats his arm. He nods at dad and then sits down.
"Hey mum." I smile at her, hugging her from behind and planting a kiss on top of her head.
She offers me a small strained smile back which further proves that she's uneasy.
"Dad." I nod towards him. No response. Not so much as the corner of his mouth curling into a somewhat smile. He just glares at me.
I take a seat next to my brother. Mum and dad sat at each end of the table.
"Food looks great mum." I speak cutting up the silence as I look around at the already set table.
"Make it yourself today?" I ask her just to make conversation.
