Tezcatlipoca & Quetzalcoatl. The animals of the twin suns and the views of life mirrored
The Toxcatl is the final event in the festivals. It is where people impersonate their deceased
It is a grand finale, and a last goodbye. To children and deity alike; a mourning to be heard
"On the 12th day our people may dance and feast. For a drought in birth is a soul released"

After the children have gone through dead's journey in reverse, the first sun rises from dusk
The obsidian jaguar who guarded their hearts comes around to return them to their owners
"I have seen your journey. I have seen your hearts wanting back. I shall not eat the infant husk"
"I return them now to you all. May this be goodbye to the falsehood of your identity's donors"

A child's heart is their true face. When it is not around, the kid is but bone without marrow
A hollow soul reflected on the jaguar's black mirror; the kid sees a heart not of its own making
"Your loved ones are a part of you. Look at them impersonate. See your face becoming narrow"
"They say hello as goodbye. It is your reversed nature. A reversed mirror that is heartbreaking"

The kids cry for they see their families once more. They cry and cry, until the tears are no more
"The river of death is full again. See your reflection in it, and let the guiding dogs drink from it"
"They have seen you up to this point. They heard your selfless cry. Let the birds, far away, soar"
And so, the four deities who accompanied them depart. But not until they gift them an outfit

"These are your bones made colorful by the stars. Wear them proud, and rattle them again"
"A Catrina the girls shall be. A Catrin of the boys we wish to see. A gift awaits most feathery"
With painted skulls and adorned skeletons, the kids are still bareboned at their campaign
Having been left alone with the obsidian jaguar, the kids ask for clothes of any degree

"For each one of you, my sibling serpent awaits. He shall fit you with his rainbow feather"
"I am Tezcatlipoca. The beginning of Toxcatl. I bring the first rise of the souls of the dead"
"Look at the black mirror once again. Black or white, your colors pop-up from the nether"
The mirror mirrored. Black to white, and dead to alive. It is an image of a kid's life's thread

On a vast white space, the children find themselves alone for a moment's idleness
All they can see is their naked colors. Their true natures, and their hearts' beating
Like drums, they beat the most beautiful music. A child's life lingers still with happiness
Soon after, a colorful shadow is seen approaching. It is the second sun that it is arriving

Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, makes it coming a glamorous entrance for a show
The children rattle and rattle, expressing their awe and excitement towards the rainbow
A pluck of its feathers was given to each child. "This is for the many aspects of your glow"
"I am Quetzalcoatl. And my feathers reflect the life and emotion of the living free of woe"

"You have journeyed. You have felt and cried for it. Your families await a return in the morning"
"Let me dress you up. Let me show you the colors that reflected your passing lives to them"
In each of the feathers' colors, each kids saw their faces' many expressions and full showing
Little by little, their faces turned to their families'. In each one, a heart where they came from

"Let my feathers rattle alongside your bones. Flock them around and dance without chagrins"
"Swing the faces of your family side to side. Let them know you still feel flutters in your heart"
"Dance as if you were with them. Rattle the bones as a coming. Toxcatl begins when life spins"
The kids dance to their beating hearts and move around their feathers. Signifying a new start

This dance is known as the "Dance of the childish dead." Where it is common to act as a kid
Playing, and jumping around, the clothes one wears are meant to look volatile and frantic
It is an expression of one's happiness and mournful skid. A blend of soul no one may forbid
While the kids dance in death, the living does likewise. Life and death become semantic

It is the meaning of the dance that gives purpose to the festivities and their great significance
Toxcatl represents two consecutives rises of the sun that burns away the remains of the dead
Like the natural way of stars, they burn themselves to death and are birthed anew in this dance
What death has seen through its black mirror is the reflection of the white of a kid's deathbed

It shall give them another chance at life. Even if dead, children deserve a life full of color
Their souls may be released, but their bodies must stay. Not a birth shall be of rotting flesh
"When Toxcatl ends, no new births shall be given in twelve days. We want not many a bawler"
"Climb on my back as I return you all to life. As the second rise, I end the dusk afresh"

On the day after the festivities end, the children return to their families as husks without souls
"You may not be given a second birth. For you will die once again. Instead, live as the dead"
On the "Day of the Dead," the deities of death shall have completed their performing goals
Return those who died for a single day. For Toxcatl means a drought in the tears that all have shed
