CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
FEATHERS OF A LOVER

---*---
ETHERION REALM

-Ered Village-
Dull skies and chilly wind, the sun hid behind those gray clouds as rain hesitate to pour down the land. An elderly woman went out of her hut, grabbing the dried laundry from last week. With the unpredictable weather, the household chores were on hold. Her eyes were involuntarily lifted, seeing the nothing but the clouds without a silver lining. Perhaps the twisted fate of the realm was meant to happen in all means to punish the sinners of the land.

"Eek," she gasped upon noticing the presence of the Chief Eureka.  It has been a long time since he has been mentioned around, and, harshly enough, no one wants to hear his name. Even his own villagers.

He caused a disgraceful act several times and is under investigation about illegal drugs. The reputation he tried to protect, began to shatter into pieces like the broken mirrors inside his wooden mansion—a place that was once sturdy with several councilors visiting his place. Now, his so-called home could be viewed as a rundown cave without nothing but enveloped darkness.

'Tch,' he gritted his teeth while clenching his fists, stomping back in his place. The man that was once looked up and admired by countless people with thousands of aids, had no one beside him. He stepped in his mansion and was never seen again.

Flap.

Leviathan's wings flapped in rhythm with his heartbeat, anxiously holding his wife. One wrong move and she might fall off his arms. Dahrleen's arms were wrapped around her husband's neck, checking the condition of the weather. It was a miracle that it hadn't rain for days in a row. But, she knew that an incoming storm will attack sooner or later.

As the couple had the skies, the Civil Knights of Tahomma Kingdom pulled out their horses in front of the front gates of the village.

The Vice-Head of the knights sensed the issues that surrounded the village. It was a wonder to them how the Village Chief hid his misdeeds. Perhaps the rumor about him leading aristocrats to take in illegal drugs was not a baseless rumor. He rolled his eyes while dropping his boots on the ground, flicking his eyes around the area.

Truly, a scent of an unknown aroma was caught by his nose, making him used his cape to block the reeking scent. 'What on earth?'

As the thoughts in the Vice-Head's mind occupied his state, Leviathan safely landed on the ground. His wings were unfolded as Dahrleen noticed the creeping atmosphere of the once strong village. She glanced at her husband, seeing his eyes disdainfully glaring at the sight. Who would have thought that the land of enchanted forests ended up being like this?

"Here," from Dahrleen palm, she pulled out a cape with the furry beasts' fur around the collar part of it. "Put it on you."

"Ah... wait," as his wife placed it around his neck, Leviathan looked at the Vice-Head, worried for his commentary expression. When he heard the mumbling statements of the Vice-Head, he could not be more bothered by the state of the realms.

His wife in contrast, kept her profile under a calm surveillance. No matter how anxious she's inside, knowing that her sons were taking their parts to the incoming war, she kept checking her heartbeat and her trembling heart. Whenever her negative thoughts conquer her mind, she would at least do her best to shake it off. "You good?"

Hehe.

Leviathan smiled back. Although Dahrleen kept saying she's all fine and there's nothing to worry about, the threshold of her emotions will soon have a crack and might fall with a treble.
