"Are you guys kidding me?" Sam asked in disbelief as she and Nick seated along with her parents to discuss the matter. "Your father thinks its right." Sasha said calmly. "Make up a damn mind, woman. You were just angry about him giving you the papers." the younger Cooper said.
"Samantha." her father warned. "No, you don't get to Samantha me. Just, just tell me what went wrong. We can fix this." she suggested and looked at Nick for some support. "Yeah, nothing's over yet." he said, nodding.
Aldrich sucked in a deep breath from between his teeth. "It's all over. There's nothing left to be fixed." he said. "Did you guys have a fight or something? I just wanna resolve this conflict. There's no need for divorce." Sam kept on insisting.
Sam knew her parents weren't the best people to her but no one deserved to experience a divorce. She didn't want them to separate and Nick understood why. He knew how Sam was always away from them since she was kid. He knew that no matter what, she would always love them for just being her birth givers.
"There are stuff that we don't agree upon and they cause severe differences between us. Making us fall and break apart. Ahem." her father said glaring the whole while at Sasha. "Oh my God, are you being serious right now?" she asked in disbelief.
"What is it?" Sam and Nick asked in unison. "He's angry cause I accidentally broke his favorite Telescope glass sculpture. Is that why you want to separate?" Sasha said with her thick Russian accent tapping in between.
"Really Dad?" "It's not the first time she's 'accidentally broke' my glass sculptures. Remember that glass made necklace piece holder that I got you from my trip to China years ago? You threw that away too." he fought.
"I couldn't keep it around our house knowing someone would see it because it looked like a dildo." she defended. "Oh my God." Sam said in disgust. "It was meant to be multi-purposed!" Aldrich spat back. "Okay okay, this is conversation is getting more gross. Stop it." Sam intervened.
"Dad, is that really why you wanna divorce Mom? For the glass antiques?" she asked facing her father. "That ain't the only reason." he admitted softly and looked at his wife. "What is the reason?" Nick asked calmly.
"We've become old, Sam. Things aren't the same anymore. Ever since Daniel cut ties with us, we spent our time in anger and shame and as more time passed, it made us realize how awful we were to you and your brother." Sasha explained.
"We only showered you with our worst personas. We, we failed you both as parents." she spoke with tears in her eyes. "We looked at Daniel's wedding pictures that he had sent us and I saw that he was happy, content and really lively. It made me think of how suppressive I must've been on him and then you. I am sorry for that, really." Aldrich said.
"I'm sorry too, honey." Sasha added tenderly as she stroked Sam's arm softly. "No." Sam said shaking her head as tears were starting to spill out. "Sam-" Nick reached out to her but to no avail. "No, no this is not fair. Not fair to me." she said.
"You don't get to show me love when you tell me you're separating." she removed her mother's hand from her arm. "Sweet child, I know-" her mother comforted. "No you don't know anything! You don't know what its like. In my twisted life, having my parents together was the one stable thing I believed in proudly. Made me feel that I had a somewhat stable background like other happy kids." Sam expressed.
"No matter how ugly and cruel it was for me and Daniel, the common thing was that it was always you 'two' being cruel to us, together. It was never one bad or good parent, it was always both." she said pointing at them. The couple looked at each other.
"Grandma would always tell me of how you guys loved each other. Remember the love that made you, Mom, run away from your family to get with Dad? I believe in that love. Its the one thing I respected about you two. You both are the cruelest match tied by love."
