The Hidden Notebook

I knew that I was asleep. I've been experiencing the dream every time I close my eyes since we caught Higuchi.

In the dream, I'm walking down a road and decide to walk into a wooded area.

There is no path, but I seem to know where I'm going, eventually reaching a clearing. On the other end of the clearing, I see a tree with a small mound of soil, as though something had been recently buried there.

I opened my eyes, taking in the early morning light streaming in my bedroom.

I prepared for the day ahead, my mind on the dream. I knew that dream had to be telling me something important. Is it the location of the missing death note?

I made my way to the monitor room to get to work, saying good morning to my boyfriend of 12 years, L.

"Good morning Miyuki." He replied, using the alias I chose to honor the day we met. We had been children on that snowy day, and I taught him how to make a snowman.

We had been together ever since that day, nearly 18 years ago. I even followed him and help him solve every case.

For several years we have worked together solving cases. L always led the investigations, but I would assist him through my innate instincts.

I would just get a strange feeling about a possible suspect or a location. I would tell L my suspicions, and he'd look into it. More often that not, would steer us in the direction.

This strange talent of mine has helped us solve most of our cases.

We worked in silence until lunch. L was analyzing the notebook we retrieved from Higuchi. Light, and his father was going over and matching all the deaths in the notebook with our records.

Matsuda, Mogi and I were going through all of our older evidence. We were revisiting all of our evidence from before Misa and Light were detained. Matsuda and I were rewriting all of our evidence, using the rules we found in the death note.

We all worked in silence until lunch, when I decided to go out for a bit. I told the men that I needed to get a few things from the shops.

It wasn't very long until I was in the woods. I had found the clearing that I had been going to in my dream.

The mound of dirt was there, under the tree. A black box had been buried there.

Inside the box is a black book that has the words Death Note inscribed on the cover in Japanese. A letter addressed to Misa sat on top of it.

I checked the back cover, thinking about the last two rules that were in the notebook we recovered from Higuchi.

The two rules that were not in this notebook. The 13 day rule, and the destruction rule were missing.

L did suspect that those rules were fake. If that's true, it makes sense that those rules are absent. This book wasn't likely meant to be found by anyone other than Light and Misa.

I read the letter and smirked to myself, a plan forming in my mind.

I bagged the box with the Death Note and letter, before depositing it on the floor of the front passenger seat of my car.

I placed the box and its contents into an evidence bag and slipped it into my purse.

When I returned to headquarters, I took my things to my suite and returned to the monitor room, making quick eye contact with the Shinigami that was in the room.

After several more hours of working, I feigned exhaustion and went back to my floor.

There were some perks to being L's girlfriend. For one, my floor was one of the only floors without cameras or wiretaps. The other was having access to all of L's contacts.
