The year is 2162 and we are in a period of History Preservation. Our culture believes that history must be fully understood so that we do not make the same mistakes are our predecessors.

Historians, researchers and scientists have been working hard on creating a way to get information about major events from the energy of the land.

It began with the idea that major events, like big battles or catastrophes leave a sort of energy in the place, like the idea of ghosts in places where many people died, or special positive energies in so called holy places. Something like if walls could talk.

Scientists have created a device that allows humans to actually witness the events, which includes seeing the reactions of those who have witnessed the events.

These devices, the History Stones, allows a small group of people to go back into the past in order to watch the event play out in order to learn everything we can about it.

So far they have been used to research various events in human history like the destruction of the ancient Roman city Pompeii, the assassination of American Presidents like Lincoln and Kennedy, and a few other important moments in time.

Now we are going to visit the Kira Case. In truth, there were two parts of the Kira Case, and so we have two teams working on preserving this historical battle between good and evil.

Each team consists of a researcher, Computer Programmer, and a Historian. I am the Historian for the Japan team. My job on the Kira Case Preservation, is to record all events for full analysis and writing the event as accurately as possible.

We've already been to the hotel rooms L had stayed at, and the old Yagami house, and we are now in the monitor room of his currently empty Taskforce Headquarters.

The other members of my team are my husband, the researcher, and his sister, the Programmer.

After checking out supplies, we moved to the middle of the room. My husband removed the History Stones from his pocket, and we placed our hands on it.

The power of the stone swirled around us as we were teleported to 2007.

It was the middle of the night when we arrived. The monitors in the rooms were blinking 1:05 October 3rd. There were only two other occupants in the room. I had my video camera trained on the pair.

None other than the legendary L, and another detective he brought with him for the case. (First Name) (Last Name). Nothing was known about her either.

We listened to the conversation.

"Ryu, what was the point of keeping them on the investigation? They aren't cops anymore, so they can't really give us the resources we need to operate here anymore." (First Name) sighed, and the dark-haired man just shook his head in agitation.

"They already know too much about us. They've seen our faces. They're a liability, plus they may eventually become useful again."

"What about Aizawa?"

"He's our police liaison."

It was silent for several minutes as L stared at the monitors showing the original two Kiras, as well as the men who had quit their jobs in order to see justice done.

(First Name) merely stared at the genius with sad eyes.

A sad sigh broke from her lips as she moved towards the other detective and wrapped her arms around him. She confessed her desire for the case to end quickly and her fears of not surviving to see the killers locked up.

"We had such big plans L. We were going to get married and start a family. I was going to show you the love we both missed out on growing up. Our children were going to grow up with the love of their parents."

"I know Cupcake. I sometimes wish I didn't take on this case, but if I didn't then Kira would win."She nodded as she held her fiance close.

The days skipped forward as nothing important happened, other than a few minutes of activity. I recorded the Taskforce watching the Yotsuba meeting on the 15th of October. We also listened to Miss Amane's recording of Higuchi's confession.

October 27th revealed the next personal scene between (First Name) and L. This time; we had followed the secret couple to L's floor.

They were sitting on the couch in his sitting room, typing away on their personal computers, laptops as my sister-in-law called them.

I couldn't get over how big the computers of this era were. They computer we use consist of a small block with a holographic monitor and keyboard. You swipe your hand in front of a sensor on the block which will only activate for the owner.

They knew things were coming to a head soon, and they had been working hard to make preparations for the inevitable.

They knew that both Kiras needed to be dealt with, so they had already sent all the information they could to the orphanage for Near.

"We know Light will probably grab the weapon and regain his memories, then he'll kill Higuchi so he can keep his memories and the weapon." L began.

"We'll release Misa, and Light will probably tell her where to find the hidden notebook. At some point after that, they'll kill us, and the boys will begin their investigation." She finished.

They finished the night cuddling each other watching popular anime of that era.

The days sped up until we came to November 5th. The day L and (First Name) died.

The couple did not appear at all during the day, however we did record a whispered conversation between Light and Misa, who was there to 'visit her boyfriend'.

They were in the suite that had previously been the model's. Since the Taskforce believed Light and Misa were innocent, they were not being watched.

We split for this part. My sister-in-law recorded the Kiras while my husband and I looked for the hidden detectives.

We found them in his rooms, having a final day together doing what couples do.

We finished this expedition with the Taskforce finding the couple when the pair didn't show up for two days in a row.

It was Matsuda who found them in each other's arms, both having died of heart attacks in the middle of the night.

Those few scenes we recorded were another important reason why we work to preserve history. The old history books were dry and never held any semblance of human interactions, which shows just how bad the Kira Case was.

What we had just witnessed wasn't an emotionless pair of coworkers working on a common goal. It was a loving couple with plans for a happy life.

A life that was torn from them by a man who had no capacity for love.
