We are now in the confinement part of the series. L has figured out that Misa is the second Kira and has put her in confinement. I listened as Rem spoke to Misa about giving up the notebook. Rem left and Misa passed out as she lost all of her Kira memories.
Now, Light and Mr Yagami are locked up as well, and I had told L to check Light's wallet and watch. He was now staring in shock at finally seeing Ryuk in Light's cell.
I told L that Light was going to give his notebook up in a few days, losing all memories of being Kira. I told him that I knew where the notebook was, and I knew that it would not be found until November, when Misa goes to retrieve it.
Tomorrow I will go and get it, as well as the letter that proves that Light was just using Misa Amane all along. That alone should help her just get some mail time, without her facing a death sentence.
While I'm doing that, Mogi was heading over to the Yagami house to search Light's room. I told him about the drawer, stating that L want him to check it out. I explained that it looked like Light was hiding something in the drawer with the key in the lock, and he would use the ink well of a pen to pop open the bottom.
(Next day)
The Death Note retrieval was a success, and now that it's just L and I, he is looking over the rules of the Death note, and the deaths that took place over the surveillance period. L had already read through the letter and agrees that Misa wouldn't have to worry about death. The letter itself proved Light's manipulation of Misa through her love and hero worship.
We had sent the letter, as well as the contents of the drawer, the envelope and walkie talkie to the crime lab for fingerprints and to get the handwriting analyzed.
"What is going to happen next? Are you able to tell me?"
"At this point in the anime, the case is at at standstill. You kept Light, Misa and Mr. Yagami in confinement for several more weeks, before making a plan to prove once and for all, that Light and Misa no longer have their powers. At this point you didn't know about the Death Notes or Shinigami. We have his notebook, so we will know he isn't Kira anymore."
"How does this work exactly? What does is having this notebook mean to Light not being Kira?"
"Ownership of the Death Note is pretty simple. When Ryuk dropped the Death Note into the human world, it became part of the human world. Light was the first person to touch it after that, so he became the owner. Touching the notebook allows humans to see the original owner, the Shinigami, in this case Ryuk. When Light gives up ownership, the first to touch it will be the owner. This includes holding the notebook when the current owner either gives it up or dies.
"Someone who owns this Death Note can hide it somewhere where Light and Misa won't find it, therefore preventing them from becoming Kira again. This will also be the case when we get the one Misa gave up. That is my ultimate plan. Once we have both notebooks, we can bring forth the rest of the evidence."
"Where do we go from here?"
"We stick with how things are supposed to go because I don't know what will happen if we push things too quickly. This route may take longer than what is really necessary, but we at least know that this will allow us to solve the case and keep you alive to see Kira's fall. Starting things early could end this earlier than expected, but it could cause us to lose or for you to possibly die."
"You put in a lot of work to keep me alive. Why?" He asked.
I was surprised that he asked, and I wasn't sure how to respond. I am too afraid to tell him the complete truth, so perhaps half of the truth?
"I care about you L. Once I realized where I was, I decided to do everything I can to help you survive this case. I don't want to see die." I replied before heading off to bed.
(L's pov)
I don't understand why I am so important to the strange girl who fell from the ceiling of my hotel room when I first arrived in Tokyo.
Watari and I had both been surprised by her sudden appearance, and I was even more surprised by her claims to being from another dimension, at least until we were able to go over the surveillance I put up as an extra line of protection, because you can't be too careful if you're the World's Greatest Detective.
Watari had agreed that the rift that (First Name) tell through, was a mythical portal between her universe and mine.
Watari researched a few obscure stories of people falling from such portals, and it is very rare for this to occur, and none of the travelers were able to return to their birth world.
That means that she is stuck here. There was no way I could send her out on her own. If Kira found her and learned of her knowledge of how the case would go, he would either use her, or kill her.
While I might be using what she tells me to my advantage, it is up to her what she tells me and when, and she has stated that she is doing to in order to help me solve this before I'm killed.
I've never had anyone to really care about whether I live of not, most of the time of I am out somewhere, people tend to move away from me. It has been this way for as long as remember, and this is why I prefer being inside my rooms, where people aren't giving me strange looks.
Her looks towards me are strange too, but not in the way as everyone else. Her expression is warmer, and she always seems concerned with my well being.
I have gotten comfortable with her. Knowing that she has lost so much, and is putting herself in danger staying by my side and fighting Kira.
I have been feeling strange around her too. I've tried to ignore everything because of the case, but I can no longer do so.
I looked my symptoms up, worried that I might finally be getting sick from something like lack of sleep, or being too stressed.
However, the accelerated heart rate, the sudden dryness in my mouth, the inability to think when she is close by, and my acute awareness of her presence are all symptoms of being in love.
Now she says that she cares about me, but the pause, her eyes and quiet demeanor as she answered told me that caring about me wasn't the reason.
I don't think she is lying; her behavior doesn't allude to a lie. It's more like she is downplaying it, not a lie, but not the complete truth.
Is it possible that she loves me?
