Death Note one shots and short stories

Warp Part 2

It's December 31st, at midnight we will be meeting with the smaller taskforce. I have been talking to L for the past couple of days on what to do with Naomi Misora, the first unnecessary death I wanted to stop.

I told him that while I did not know what changes could come from recruiting her, I did tell him that she would have useful information. I felt the information would be better coming from her because she would likely be able to prove her theories to him in a way that was better than my simple 'I just know stuff' reply.

It isn't like my knowledge will be taken seriously by the rest of the taskforce, but coming from an investigator? They will believe her more than me.

"The problem is that I don't know the exact time she runs into Kira. I know it is definitely tomorrow, and I know the time she is supposed to die originally, if she didn't give him an alias."

In the end I decided to leave around noon to make sure I am at the station when she arrives. L even gave me a phone, so I can call him so Naomi can speak to him directly. His phone has a voice filter built into it so there is no concern with her not recognizing the voice speaking to her.

We both knew that the best way to get her to come with me is by speaking to L himself, especially after I told him that she would only trust him. She doesn't want to give her information to an investigator, but to him.

We met with the men, who were surprised by my presence, but not as surprised as they were with L's appearance.

It was around noon when L decided to check each man to make sure they weren't Kira, even though you told him that none of them were working with Kira. 

This was his way of dismissing me, so I could get Naomi. I nodded, taking my leave, grabbing the cell phone L gave me so I could call him.

I made my way to the police station which wasn't too far from the hotel we were at. I waited in the shade for a little while until I saw her approach. I stepped out of the shadows, her eyes jumping to me instantly. I approached her in a slow, non-threatening way.

"Naomi Misora." I spoke quietly, watching her tense slightly. I put my hands up to show her that I had no weapons on me. She calmed down just a little bit, but remained wary of me. "I understand that you have information on Kira for L and that you don't want to talk to anyone from taskforce."

"I don't know what you're talking about." She stated.

"I can appreciate the caution, and I can understand that you do not trust me. That is wise, and it proves just how great an agent you were before quitting in order to prepare for your wedding. I also know that Raye Penber had recently been on a bus that got hijacked,and that he told you about it. I know that you believe that he met Kira on that bus and that he had been put into a position where he needed to show Kira his id. Now, having said that, what would you say if I told you that I have a cell phone with L on speed dial so you can speak directly to him in order for you to know that I am not Kira?"

"I would tell you to prove it and would ask how you know about a private conversation between my fiancee and me."

"I believe you can understand if I didn't answer that last part until we are somewhere more private. As for the first, here is my cell phone. Just press and hold nine."

I watched as she did what I told her and waited for L to answer. She was surprised when L answered the phone and confirmed that I had his complete trust and that I wasn't Kira. She handed the phone back to me and he let me know that I was to bring her to his hotel room.

I hung up the phone, and we walked down the street together. I explained that we were meeting L directly and I told her that I already knew all of the  information she had. I told her that she was on the right track and that she was correct in her theory Kira can kill be means other than just heart attacks.

Once we arrived, Naomi only paused a brief moment in shock at L's appearance before they went into another room to talk.

It was only a half an hour before Naomi motions for me to come in. I sat down between the two of them, accepting the tea with sugar and honey from the dark-haired detective. I addressed Naomi.

"To answer your question earlier on how I knew about the conversation you had with your late fiancee, I can now tell you. Ryuzaki already knows this and has seen proof of it, so he can confirm it for you. I am not from here; I'm from another dimension. In my world you and Mr. Penber, and Ryuzaki are fictional characters from a manga and anime series call Death Note. A Death Note is a black notebook that is originally owned by a Shinigami and can be used to kill people by writing their names while picturing their face."

"On December 20th Raye Penber was tailing a high school student who was supposedly on a date to Spaceland. But the truth is, that Kira had orchestrated the whole thing in order to get his name. His Shinigami, Ryuk felt uncomfortable with Mr. Penber following them, and told Light about him, but didn't give him his name. He sat near the back of the bus, leaving only one seat for Mr Penber to sit. Then the hijacker stepped on and demanded his ransom while saving a gun around." I paused a moment to take a drink.

"Kira told his date that he would attempt to wrestle the gun out of the man's hand, which led to Mr. Penber speaking up, telling the teens that he would take care of it. Kira told his date about how he heard stories of a second hijacker sitting in the back of the bus, to assist the first should something go wrong. Raye felt the need to prove that he can be trusted to handle the situation should he need to, and not suspecting the teen to be Kira, showed him his FBI badge. Kira dropped a piece of the Death Note, leading the hijacker to pick it up and allowed him to see Ryuk. He fired all his shots at the Shinigami, who aren't affected by bullets or things being thrown at them. He panicked and demanded to get off the bus, only to be killed when he was hit by a car seconds after departing the bus."

I went on to explain what happened with Raye Penber the day he was killed. 

"Why didn't this Shinigami just tell Kira his name?" L asked.

"Ryuk has stated to Kira that he isn't on his side or your side. He is merely a spectator. He had gotten bored in the Shinigami realm and decided to drop his notebook. He's rather interested in watching things go down between the two of you."

"Why did you stop me from entering the police station?"

"If you had gone inside you would've been killed by Kira. He was going to enter the station and overhear you ask the receptionist to check for a member of the taskforce again. He would have basically smooth talked you and get you to leave with him. You would have eventually tell him of your correct theories and suspicions and he would have killed you. You gave him a fake name at first and once he figured it out, he would lead you to believe that he was on the taskforce and that he could get you into a meeting with L, but that you would've need to be recommended by someone who was already on the taskforce. That is why you gave him your name. He would have made you kill yourself somewhere where your body would never be found, that way there was no evidence of your death." I explained to her, and she sat back, taking everything in.

Naomi decided to head back to her hotel room, a little while later, feeling a little better now that she had talked to L.
