Prompt: Letters never sent
Ship: L x reader
(L's pov)
What is she hiding?
I've been watching (first name) for a while now. She has been acting strange lately.
I know she isn't Kira, or rather, I hope she isn't Kira.
(First name) is unlike anyone I've ever met before, whether it's people I've spoken to through the computer, or people I have personally met.
I must investigate, just to make sure it isn't dangerous.
I had to wait a few days until everyone left. (First name), and the rest of the taskforce has to attend a meeting at the NPA, and Watari is out on an errand run.
I went to her floor and found her (favorite color) notebook. I flipped through it, skimming through random notes she had made for herself during the case, her own theories on the case, many of which made a lot of sense to me.
If I survive this case, I will need to see if she would be willing to help me on future cases. I could really use a girl as intelligent as her.
I stopped suddenly when I saw my name, or rather, my alias.
Ryuzaki,
I doubt you will ever read this. In fact, if I found out you did, I would never be able to look you in the eyes, due to the embarrassment and fear of what you must think of me.
I love you L, and I know that you will never feel the same for me.
I love everything about you. Your messy black hair that makes me just want to run my fingers through. Your dark grey-blue eyes that can reveal what you're really thinking if only one bothers to look. I even love your eyebags, that gives you a tired look and makes me want to cuddle with you.
I love just how comfortable you seem to be in your iconic long sleeve white shirt and jeans, even if others don't seem to understand you clothing choice.
I love how you can sit in such a strange unique position as you work, regardless of the strange looks from everyone else.
I especially love when you're deep in thought, and you start playing with your lip, and when you stare out the window or at the computer screen, making me wonder what is going through that brilliant mind of yours.
I know that you don't trust most people, and I know that you don't expect to live to see this case solved. I know that you probably don't see anything wrong with the possibility of your death, that you think no one will care that you die.
You're wrong L. I don't want to see you die, and I will miss you if you do.
You are not going to die L. I will stop Kira myself if I have to, if only to stop him from killing you. I will do what I need to do to keep you safe.
Even if you don't love me, that is ok. All I really need is to know that you are alright, and for you to know that someone loves you, regardless of what you think of me.
(First name)
She......loves me?
Will now I know what she's hiding. Now how to use this new knowledge to my advantage.
I put (First name)'s notebook away and leave her floor, spending the rest of my alone time making plans.
When I go to my father figure for advice once he is back, still a few hours before she is due back.
After talking to him, I write a short letter for (First name) and slide it under her door.
(First name's pov)
That meeting was so boring, but it was over and now we're finally getting back to taskforce headquarters. Even though nothing is happening right now, I'm happy to be there then to be at the police station.
L is there, the beautiful man who doesn't understand just how amazing he is. At the beginning of the case, L intrigued me. I was curious about the man behind the letter.
The opportunity to meet him was too good to pass up, so I took it. Then, as the case continued I saw more and more of the man behind the computer screen and voice filter, until I realized that I had fallen in love with him.
We entered the monitor room and were greeted by the genius detective, who has suddenly decided to give everyone tomorrow off in order to relax and spend time with their families.
It was pretty sweet that he was giving us a day off, but my family doesn't live in Japan, so I decided to just work with L tomorrow.
I smiled to myself as I walked to my room after he dismissed us for the night, thinking about how it would pretty much be him and me alone together.
I unlocked my door and put the key on the hook by the door. Sitting my bag down, I noticed a piece of paper on the floor. Confused I picked it up and read the message.
(First name),
I was wondering if you would like to go on a date with me tomorrow. If you are agreeable, I will like to meet you on the rooftop at 5pm.
Just look at the nearest camera to give me your answer.
Ryuzaki
I blushed as I turned to the camera.
"I would love to Ryuzaki."
The next day I found L in the monitor room as usual. He smiled warmly at me, causing me to blush, as I was reminded of the note and our date later.
We got to work, and at 4pm, I stood up to get ready for our date.
I arrived promptly at 5pm and saw that L was already there and had a dark blue blanket with a picnic basket on top of it.
He was crouching on the blanket beside the basket. I walked over to him and sat down on the other side of the basket.
We are the strawberry shortcake he packed while having a light conversation that had nothing to do with the investigation.
The conversation was mostly about little things we did growing up, while leaving out anything that could possibly give away where he is from.
Finally, after we had finished the cake and drank the tea that accompanied it, L got around to the reason behind this date.
He told me that he had noticed my strange behavior and had become suspicious. He wanted to make sure that I wasn't Kira, or being possessed by Kira, so he went in my rooms yesterday while I was at the meeting.
He had found the letter I wrote because I couldn't handle it anymore. I wrote it out of fear that I would just tell him how I feel and cause him to reject me.
He told me that he had been feeling the same way for a while but thought I would reject him because of how weird he is.
"Honestly, I was surprised to find that you feel affection for me, and even more so that you aren't bothered by my quirks of looks. You really are an amazing woman (First name)."
"Your the amazing one L. You are the world's greatest detective and you have saved so many lives when you solve the cases you take on. Who else can say that?" I turned to smile at him.
"While, I was a little miffed at first when you said that you went through my things, I'm not really mad. I know that I would never have been able to tell you that I love your on my own. That was why I wrote the letter. I never expected you to find it, but I'm glad you did. But L, next time you feel the need to search my room, just talk to me ok?" I asked, he nodded.
We took in the view in silence for a few minutes before the raven-haired man turned to me.
"I don't know much about love, but I'm willing to learn."
"I'm happy to teach you everything I know."
That is how I ended up sitting on a blanket watching the sun set over the horizon with my favorite sweet loving genius.
