It had been a long day of nothing. The case was at a standstill.

Light, Misa, and Chief Yagami were still being held under 24/7 surveillance.

The first two were still acting like they had no idea who Kira was.

The task force was working on reorganizing the older evidence. Trying to find something that they had missed. A clue that would point them in a different direction.

Only two people on the investigation that knew Light Yagami was the original Kira. And that Misa Amane was the second Kira.

L had told the men not to let their feelings get in the way of the investigation. This was exactly what he was talking about.

The first indication that Kira was close to the officers happened very early in the case.

There had been a leak of sensitive information on the investigation. This told L that it was someone on the case, or a someone close to one of the officers.

Raye Penber's strange behavior before his death narrowed the list of suspects significantly.

The problem for the men was the main suspect was too close to the case.

Light the son of the Chief. A child that many of the men had watched growing up. Light was also a very bright young man who had helped in several cases.

L was frustrated by the lack of new leads. But so was his girlfriend (First Name).

She had left the hotel an hour or two ago, and L had an idea of where to find her.

He left Watari in charge of the surveillance cameras and left to find her.

As he had expected, he found her laying on a blanket on the roof of the newly finished building they had built. With how long the case was taking, the couple planned on making a permanent headquarters.

The building was all but ready for their big move in a week or two.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Reminiscing." She replied. He tilted his head for a moment before joining her on the blanket.

"It's been a while since we did this." He stated as he stared up at the night sky.

Up here, they were able to see the sky clearly. They were high enough that the city lights wouldn't obstruct the view of the stars. And the city noise was far enough away to not disturb their peace.

They used to stargaze on the roof of the orphanage all the time when they were kids. The orphanage was far enough away from the town that they could avoid the sounds of village life, much like they had now in Tokyo.

"Hey, you remember when we were talking about all the cool things we wanted to do when we grew up?" Her voice broke through the stillness of the moment.

"Which time?"

"We were nine, and we were talking about some of the things we wanted to do when we grew up. Not jobs, of course, we both knew we'd be detectives. I'm talking about the things we wanted to do while travelling."

"You mean like how we wanted to try the popular flavors of ice cream in each country we visited?" He asked. She laughed, and L gave a quick smile at the sound.

"Yes! Cakes too! The Caribbean Coconut Rum cake in Jamaica was delicious. So was the Black Forest Chocolate Torte in Germany." She stated.

"I remember those. My favorite dessert was when we had that dulce de Leche ice cream in Argentina."

"Oh yeah! That was some amazing ice cream." She smiled at the memory.

"(First Name), you remember when we were 14 and we were talking about our favorite ideas for a date?"

"Yeah? Why?"

"Let's do it." She turned to the dark-haired detective, eyes wide.

"L? Are you serious?"

"Yeah. We can make a day of it tomorrow. We need a break."

"Sure. We deserve a nice day out. Just the two of us."

"Just the two of us." I agreed.

"I like the sound of that." She grinned.

(The next day)

L and (First Name) wandered through the streets of Tokyo, on their way to the nearby coffee shop they favored.

It was the start of their date, and they had to improvise a bit since they have been so far away from home.

They couldn't visit the park where they confessed their feelings. So they decided to embrace L's Japanese heritage.

After getting their coffees they walked sat by the lake of a local park.
They enjoyed the warmth of the summer day and just talked. They talked about their friendship and their current relationship.

They talked about what they wanted for the future. The possibility of getting married. Buying the house down the road from the orphanage. Maybe even have the family neither of them had.

Then they went to a couple of museums. Taking in the history and culture of the country.

After that they went out for ice cream and walked through the park, just taking in the scenery.

They watched the sun set over the lake, and walked back to headquarters building hand in hand.

They finished the date by falling asleep under the stars.

Hours later Watari used he keys to get into the building. He used the back entrance that only the three of them knew about.

The older man found them on the rooftop, sleeping in each other's arms.
