Namjoon was aimlessly staring at the painting across the room before he heard the knock. It was faint and gentle, he knew straight away who it was.
Namjoon takes a deep breath, shakily twisting the doorknob. There he is. Seokjin, the love of his life. His hair was now back to his normal black, but to Namjoon, he was still beautiful. Namjoon could easily tell you how much he loved Seokjin and all the reasons he adored him. But what he can't tell you, is why he broke his own heart and let Seokjin go.He doesn't really know when the drift started, or when the tension between the pair grew. He didn't know why they had fought, it all seemed pointless now. He doesn't know why any of this happened. It just happened. No warning, nothing. It was silent.
"Hi," Seokjin says softly, Namjoon almost cries hearing his voice. A beautiful sound he missed so much. They've been apart for almost two weeks.
"Hi" he replies quietly, the two stand there silently. Namjoon can see the boxes beside Seokjin, he can see Seokjin's neat handwriting on the side labeling it 'Joon's things'. That hit Namjoon a little too hard."I have your stuff," Seokjin tells him, bending down to pick them up again. He hands them one by one to Namjoon, both remaining silent as they move the boxes inside. Seokjin hands over the last box to Namjoon, who does his best to prevent himself from crying.
"Well...that's everything," Seokjin says quietly, he looks down at his feet, knowing that if he looked at Namjoon he would cry.
"Did you want a snack? A drink?" Namjoon asks, hoping for more time. Seokjin clenched his fist inside the pocket of his jacket. Of course, he wanted to stay with Namjoon longer, if he had a choice he would never let go. But it was a decision that Namjoon made, and he couldn't help but feel hurt and angry at him."I-I can't...sorry. I better go, wouldn't want to be stuck in traffic" Seokjin stutters, Namjoon only nods. Seokjin gives a small nod and swiftly exits Namjoon's apartment.
"Goodbye Namjoon"
The door clicks quietly, and Namjoon does his best to not cry. He begins to distract himself with the boxes, slowly opening them and putting his stuff back in their original places. When he reaches the last box, he finds a small brown wooden box, with a small purple flower on it. This wasn't his.Namjoon curiously took out the small box, turning it over before accidentally dropping it and spilling its contents.
Namjoon quickly scoops up, tilting his head to see Polaroids. He looks through a few to find various pictures of Seokjin and Namjoon, with neat little blurbs at the bottom of each one. How had Namjoon never seen this? He quickly fishes out his phone, quickly calling Seokjin."Namjoon?"
"Sorry I think you forgot your photo box," Namjoon tells the other, he can hear the other one groan silently.
"The brown little box?"
"Yeah, with a flower on it?"
"Shit, I wasn't supposed to put that in there. Sorry"
"That's okay, did you want to come back and get it?"
Seokjin remains silent.
"I-I don't think I can today...maybe tomorrow? Is that okay?"
"Of course my Lo-"
Namjoon stops himself from calling Seokjin his love because he's no longer his.
"Yeah, of course, I'll see you tomorrow"
Namjoon quickly hangs up, slapping a hand to his face at his idiotic mistake.Namjoon places the box on his kitchen bench, staring at it for a few minutes. Surely he could take a look? No, that's an invasion of Seokjin's privacy. But surely he won't find out? Namjoon was debating over his mind, before he thought fuck it, and reopened the box.
Namjoon looks at the first Polaroid, a picture of Seokjin and him alongside a smiling Yoongi holding a key to their first apartment together. Namjoon laughs at how wide Seokjin's eyes are in this picture.
"The keys to our first apartment! I am so excited to share this place with Joonie"Namjoon remembers their first apartment well, it wasn't big and it felt quite cramped, but the pair didn't care, they had each other. Namjoon almost died of embarrassment seeing the next Polaroid of Seokjin and him in college, Seokjin of course was very handsome but Namjoon had decided to have the worst hairstyle of a black Afro. At least now he had learned. (Shoutout to no more dream RM, love you)
"Our first selfie as a couple! Joonie confessed his feelings and it was the most romantic thing ever. Shoutout to Yoongi who told me to get over my five-year crush, I hope both sides of your pillow are warm tonight 😈"
Another picture of the pair holding candles as they kissed one another. It was New Year's, and Namjoon remembered that they couldn't afford sparklers, but made the best of their situation.
"Joonie looks so handsome in the candlelight, we don't have much money but we have each other and that's more than enough for me"
Namjoon feels his heartbreak at this.
The next picture is one Namjoon remembers taking, it's more worn out than the others. It's a picture of Seokjin lying down and looking up at the camera. Namjoon was so excited to try out his first camera and he knew he wanted the picture to be of Seokjin."Joonie took this picture with his first camera, he told me he would keep it in his wallet, the silly boy keeps breaking his wallets somehow...like seriously how does that happen??"
Namjoon smiles and laughs at the pictures, finding an odd sense of comfort. The last picture he saw was one that they took for a class project, he remembers it like it was yesterday. Namjoon had always been in love with Seokjin, nobody else would ever come close to Seokjin. He asked him out, ready to face rejection. But, Seokjin had said yes, and Namjoon had slapped himself (which scared Seokjin) to make sure he wasn't dreaming.
"Our last date, I remember when we first met, we both were so different then. I didn't think he liked me, but I knew that this was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with...I guess that it isn't our reality anymore"
Namjoon blinks away his tears as they drop onto the Polaroid. He wondered what could've saved their relationship. He wanted Seokjin to stay with him forever, but he couldn't. They couldn't be together anymore. Sometimes, it just happens even when you don't want it to.
"D-did you look inside the box?" Seokjin asks him the next day as he holds it in his hand, but Namjoon doesn't reply straight away.
"No, I didn't see it" Seokjin nodded his head slowly, he knew Namjoon was lying, he wanted a convincing liar.
"Okay...well, I guess this is really it" Seokjin whispers, Namjoon notices his eyes twitching, and he's holding back his tears.
"Goodbye Jinnie" Namjoon whispers, not even trying to hide his tears, Seokjin too lets tears fall from the corner of his eyes.
"Bye Joonie"
