Unexpected

Chapter 30

The sun was beaming through the blinds. I tried opening my eyes but that was too much work so I just squinted instead. Maya was stretched out snoring and drooling damn she was a bad sleeper.

I laughed because she wasn't all that cute when she sleeped. I slowly tip-toed out of bed trying not to wake her up. As I got up she rolled over and grabbed the pillow closer to her side.

I needed to pee so I walked into the bathroom I've been holding it in forever so it felt good to finally release it. I flushed the toilet then walked over to the sink looking at myself in the mirror I could still see the scars from my incident.

Finally when I stopped staring I realized we had no toothbrushes. I wasn't going to walk around with morning breath so I grabbed my car keys and decided to go buy toothbrushes. I didn't want to wake up Maya so I just left.

I drove around until I found a walgreens. When I walked in I quickly went into the hygiene aisle and just picked up what I needed. I was feeling in touch with my inner child so I got a spongebob toothbrush for Maya and a tinkerbell one for me.

I picked up a tooth paste then I made my way to check-out. There was about four people in front of me I picked up a magazine and began to flip through the pages for quick entertainment.

Before I knew it I was at the front of the cash register. When I looked up the person that stood behind the counter just stared at me as if they've just seen a ghost.

"You know if you take a picture it'll last longer"

The person still just stared at me he had deep blue eyes similar to the color of the ocean with sandy brown hair, I could see that he was somewhat muscular, his eyebrow and ears were pierced, and he had a chinese symbol tattooed on his arm.

I snapped at him

"Hello? Can you please just ring these up? You're starting to creep me out!"

He shook his head and started scanning the items

"Your total is $6.95"

I handed him a $10 bill then he gave me back my change and handed me the bag. As I walked towards the automatic doors I heard him say

"Have a nice day Eva"

I literally froze in place and thought did he just say my name or am I just hearing things.

I walked back inside

"How the hell do you know my name?"

"I don't know what your talking about ma'am"

"You know exactly what the fuck I'm talking about you said 'Have a nice day Eva' I'm not deaf so please DON'T FUCK WITH ME."

He put his head down and started shaking it finally he looked at me and smiled

"Look I saw your name on your necklace that's all don't kill me"

When I looked down to my neck I realized I was wearing the necklace my mom had made for me with my name engrazed in the pendent.

I didn't know what to do I just walked out of the store. I jumped in the car and drove back to the hotel. When I walked up to put the key in the door I saw that it was already open.

I slowly pushed it open I didn't see maya laying on the bed. I checked the bathroom and still no sign of her.

I walked back outside and there she was walking towards me frantically

"I've been looking all over for you!"

"I just went to go get a few things that's it"

"Well you scared me to death you can't just leave like that"

I walked over to her

"Look I'm sorry it won't happen again I promise"

She hugged me then we walked back into the room. I handed her the bag

"I thought you might need this"

She looked through it and smiled when she saw the toothbrush.

I walked back into the bathroom and brushed my teeth. I couldn't help but think about what happened back in Walgreens like it didn't make sense I feel like there was something more going on. I could no longer just push things to the back of my head I did that with the black car and look how that turned out.

The police have yet to find Peyton or better yet who brought me to the hospital so I had to be careful. When I walked out Maya was laying on the bed listening to her iPod I should watched her.

Then she noticed me and took one headphone out

"Do you always just watch little girls like that?"

I laughed and walked over to the bed and layed next to her

"If that little girl is you I'll stare all day"

I felt her move closer to me so I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and pulled her in.

"Today when I went to walgreens the cashier guy knew my name"

She jumped up and looked at me with great concern in her eyes

"How did he know your name? Like did you guys know each other?"

I grabbed her arm and pulled her back down to my side

"Calm down detective, he saw my name on my necklace & decided to say it, but when he saw me you'd think he had seen a ghost the way he stared"

"Okay... So what more evidence do you need that he probably knew your name before hand and not because of your "necklace" as he claimed"

"Uh I don't know okay I didn't want to over exaggerate and be wrong about the kid"

She went quiet for a few minutes then finally got out of the bed and spoke up

"Look Eva I'm not going to wait until something actually goes down and we end up dead. Look its still early lets just leave and end this little trip before the worst happens okay?"

I didn't say anything I grabbed the car keys and my jacket and headed for the door. I walked to the front desk and returned the room key while thinking the owner for the service.

When we got into the car it was silent. I started up the engine and sped out of the parking lot driving towards the open road. Luckily the tank was still full so no stops would be necessary this time.
