The alarm on my phone went off instantly waking me up. Maya didn't move a muscle though after watching the news last night I didn't sleep as well it was still fresh on my mind.
I shook Maya awake she rubbed her eyes and looked at me tiredly
"Is it time for school already?"
"Yes honey it is so get up go take a shower I'm going back to my house to get ready. I'll wait for you in the car"
She just groaned and got up from the couch dragging herself upstairs
"You sound like my mom."
I laughed while heading out the door. So it took me about 30 mintutes to get ready my best time yet. I didn't care for dressing up I had no one to impress anyways.
Maya still hadn't come out of her house my goodness I honked the horn at her like 50x then as I looked up to her window she flashed me. Man she was so crazy I could only put my head in my hands and just laugh to myself.
Finally 10 minutes later she came out she looked so good. She was wearing a white tank top exposing her belly button piercing with a black leather jacket, then she wore camo pants that hanged off her torso and to finish the outfit off she wore black combat boots. Her hair was down curly as ever.
When she stepped into the car her perfume hit me it smelled so good if we hugged I wouldn't let her go.
She closed the door then leaned over to kiss me and I didn't resist those lips of hers. After that I pulled out of the drive way and headed to school.
**
There was a swarm of reporters surrounding the high school with a pool of people standing all around.
I pulled into the student parking lot and put the car in park. I turned off the engine and looked over to Maya
"We don't have to go you know"
it took a minute for the words to actually escape her mouth
"No I'm good."
she gave me a warm smile
We both got out of the car and started walking towards the school I held her hand and she just gripped it harder. I saw most of the student body surrounding a news reporter they finally had identified the body.
"Good morning, the body that was found last night has been indentified. It was Jake Adams a senior who attended this high school. Police are now investigating this case and hopefully we'll know why this tragedy occured"
Suddenly all you could hear was mumbling voices discussing what they had just heard. I couldn't believe that it was a student who went here I could only wonder if it was someone I knew.
I walked with Maya to the entrance of the school that's when I heard someone calling out my name
"Eva, Eva!"
I turned around and saw Brooke walking in our direction.
She walked up and just hugged me after about 2 minutes she let me go
"I heard about what happened to you with Peyton and your parents I'm sorry for your lost."
"Yeah so am I"
"How have you've been you missed like 2 months of school?"
"Yeah that was the plan, but I'm fine I guess"
she didn't say anything she just looked over to Maya
"Who is this?"
"Oh how rude of me Brooke this is Maya my girlfriend and Maya this is Brooke a good friend of mine"
"Girlfriend?"
"Yeah girlfriend"
Brooke looked surprised and disappointed lets just say me and her had a "past".
"Um well its so sad how Jake died I still can't believe it"
"Wait Brooke who was Jake that name doesn't ring a bell"
she fiddled through her bag until she came across what she was looking for. It was the yearbook she flipped through a few pages then finally she handed it to me.
"Look that's Jake right there"
When I saw the picture I literally froze I dropped Maya's hand from mine and held the book with both hands
"Eva what's wrong?"
I heard the words but I couldn't reply.
This was the boy from Walgreens I couldn't believe this. I had just seen him a day ago and now he's dead? Could my life get anymore complicated
"Did you know him Eva?"
"Um no I didn't"
I handed the book back and grabbed Maya's hand and headed for the door.
When we walked in I pulled Maya into the bathroom I felt so flustered I checked making sure no one was in the stalls it was clear.
"What's going on? When you saw the picture of Jake your face lost all color"
"Look Jake was the boy from Walgreens Maya"
she looked surprised and more shocked then when I saw his picture
"Wow so now the kid is dead like a day later? This was no coincidence okay"
I just walked over to the sink and looked into the mirror why had my life become a horrible show. Soon a few girls walked in which meant I no longer needed to be in here.
I walked out making my way to the office so I could get my schedule and locker information.
"Hello my name is Eva I'm here to pick up my schedule and locker information"
The lady looked through some papers then finally she came across what I needed.
"Ah yes here you go Eva nice to have you back"
"Thank you ma'am"
I walked out only to see Maya standing there with her arms crossed I walked past her in attempt to look for my locker.
"Look I hate to say this but Eva you can't just ignore what's going on"
I tried to control my anger but I just felt my skin heating up. I walked faster because I didn't want to say anything that I'd regret.
Finally I found it I entered the lock combination and it popped open. When I opened the locker a note fell out Maya picked it up before I could.
Her eyes went cold and she went emotionless
"What does it say?"
She just stood there holding it not saying anything so I grabbed it from her and read it
'The games have just begun and it looks like your girlfriend 's time is up.'
