"dear, we have great news!" jake's mom sang at the kitchen table in the morning. he was planning on walking layla right after he finished eating.

"what is it?" he asked enthusiastically.

"remember that application we helped you make some months back on the exchange program to australia?" his dad added.

jake started feeling anxious. "yes? the one that closed a month after we sent the application?"

his mom nodded smiley, "look at this!"

she gave him the ipad with an email opened. he started reading but his mom was so excited she just spoiled the contents.

"they said they'd love to have you next year! isn't that amazing dear?!" she yelped happily.

jake felt torn inside. he read the whole email and realized what it meant. this was exactly the opportunity he always dreamed about, but there was something, no... someone holding him back.

just one glance at his mom and he was infected with her enthusiasm. jake looked at his dad and he was surprised to also see a giant smile and a blinding gleam in his eyes.

he put aside his worries for a moment and let himself feel the thrill of the new opportunity.

"it is amazing! i thought they wouldn't respond! i had given up already!" jake exclaimed, effortlessly imitating his mother's happy tone.

seeing both his parents this elated reminded him why he always wanted to travel. and he remembered why he would definitely take the opportunity no matter what: both his parents had been saving since he was little and first talked about this dream of his.

there was no way he would be letting all that effort and hard work go to waste. he was definitely going to go on that exchange program. no matter what. but he still felt troubled about that one matter holding him back. his childhood friend, lee heeseung.

jake had started realizing his feelings towards his friend almost a year back. he had a hard time coming to terms with it but once he did, he was always wanting to see him even more.

and since they were very close, of course jake had told him about his application on the program and heeseung cheered him on. later on jake also told him that he got no response so heeseung bought him three packages of his favorite ramyeon and cooked them for him.

jake knew he was starting to fall in love with heeseung right after, only dreaming of what could be. now, months after that, he had to tell his long time friend and crush he was leaving next year to come back who knows when. he didn't want to.

walking layla he kept thinking on it. jake knew how heeseung would react. but that's precisely what he didn't want to face. he didn't want to hear heeseung only say he was happy for him. he wanted heeseung to tell him to not leave.

"jake... don't go... stay here, with me," is what jake wanted to hear leaving from heeseung's lips. but he knew it was too far fetched and that it was nearly impossible. still, that small light of hope kept him at bay.

he knew he had to tell heeseung, sooner or later, but right now it was too soon. he wouldn't. not yet.

jake heard his familiar voice yell out at him when he was passing by with layla. and jake smiled.

"hey smart-ass! you've seen the new episode of the anime you like so much yet?"
