"hey! wanna take the bus to school together?" heeseung asked jake through the phone like he usually did on mondays.
"i overslept. you go ahead, don't wait for me." jake stated.
"oh— i can wait for you. i never miss physics so it's okay if i'm a bit late," heeseung insisted.
"please don't. i wouldn't bare being the reason you miss seeing mirae," jake answered like he usually joked with heeseung, except this time he didn't sound like he was joking.
"...if you say so. be careful on your way. text me when you get to school." heeseung said disheartened.
"sure." and then jake hung up.
more and more unusual things kept happening between him and jake. heeseung actually wanted to ask jake what had happened on his birthday because he didn't see him the day after and he didn't remember anything except jake being mad at him. and crying.
he wasn't sure if it had been a dream or not, so he wanted to be certain, but jake wouldn't spare him more than ten seconds of his time. he didn't ignore heeseung but their conversations were short lived and jake's attention was too ephemeral to get him the answers he searched for.
by thursday he was out of his mind worried if he maybe did do something wrong and that's why he was being so distant. so he expressed his worries to mirae, someone who he felt was neutral on the subject. at least that's what he thought.
"he's probably just going through a hard time. maybe you should let him be for now and later he might come to you to explain things," she advised.
heeseung wasn't completely convinced with the idea, but he didn't want to keep insisting on jake if he didn't want to be bothered. he'd wait for him until he wanted to talk. for now, talking with mirae was the favorite part of his day.
"you're right. he might just get mad at me if i keep insisting. thanks mirae," heeseung added.
"sure! whenever you need me," she winked with a smile.
this wasn't the mirae he had always been admiring from afar. heeseung was simply happy he was getting to know this side to her, the girl he had struggled to talk to the first few months of school.
"i never imagined we would be this close," heeseung said in glee.
mirae gave him a smile he had never seen on her before, "we could be even closer," she whispered with a determined look in her eyes.
"closer?" heeseung asked holding back a smile. his past self would be screaming and jumping up and down. his current self wasn't.
"yeah... like this," she breathed as she neared her face to heeseung's and kissed his cheek.
heeseung sat still in place, he really never thought this would happen to him.
