❝and then, in a moment, it was gone.❞

her eyes were still cast to the ground, burning, and as she looked up at the hushed prayer, her gaze landed on the man she wanted to avoid like the plague.
his attention was already on her, calculating stare mixed with a frown as his head tilted sideways for a moment while the crowds went on.
gaze diverting else where, the Targaryen saint turned to look away, her hair lightly swinging with the movement to cover the side of her face from his cunning eyes.
as she noted the many lords and ladies turning his way to watch him walk nearer, she simply stepped aside, her figure moving around the crowd while she carefully modified her features as best as she could without moving too much.
she knew that he'd always be able to figure her out no matter what face she had on, he had once told her that powerful grishas had an aura about them that pinpointed them amongst any mass, and as she recalled Alina's presence back at the courtyard and all through the night, she understood what he meant.
she also knew that she could not let him catch up to her, and as she noted the empty exit right in front of her, Aeya kept heading straight, her eyes barely landing on Kaz's furrowed brows and his squinting expression.
she nodded before disapearing into the hallway, her steps light and swift as she recalled the way around the Little Palace before finally vanishing within a small locked room.
her ears were pressed softly against the wood's surface and her gaze mindlessly on the floor as she listened in for the nearing strides who belonged to none other than the general. as he stopped near the door, his fingers barely wrapping around the handle, the saint wrapped her powers against it before holding the lock in place so that no matter how much he insisted, it would not give away to his strength.
after a few moments, she noted the hurried walking and clattering of metal; guards, as it grew nearer to the room she was hiding in, and, with silent movement, she pushed closer, hoping for any clues to the hurry.
"moi soverenyi." she heard one of them voice out firmly. "there's something you need to see."
the darkling's hand was still on the door as he spoke and she could hear that his attention wasn't fully with the oprichniki.
"what is it?" he grumbled, voice low and annoyed as he turned to look at them and she could almost imagine the scene from behind the barrier.
with hesitation, the guard spoke. "it's the stag," he stated in a hushed tone, feet stuttering closer to the man in black as if to keep his secret. "some trackers say they found it."
all motion stilled. "and you believe them?" Aleksander quizzed, palm now simply hovering over the wood and she relaxed slightly, his influence on the door was pulled away.
"they seem convincing enough," the man explained, "you should come see them for yourself," he suggested, face pulling into a wince as the general's glare fell on him. "if I must."
the Targaryen frowned to herself, head tilting as she focused on the sound of their feet before calling out to a small trail of magic and letting it track them. as they grew further away, she quietly unlocked the door and got out, neck snapping left and right to make sure the hallway was empty.
