❝though lovers be lost, love shall not.❞

¤

gaze set on the decorated roof above her head, the queen was lost in thought, curls splayed over pillows and chest softly heaving with each breath. her mind was still spinning with all of the events that had happened in the past two days.

it was all moving too fast.

from getting sent awah from Kerch, to learning the truth about her family's actual murderer. to the hours on dragonback then to the Spinning Wheel and the responsibility dropped back on her shoulders.

she'd missed it all, she truly has, her friends most of all. but she felt unfit for it, even after all the fighting she'd went through to get it back, she felt unprepared, and for the first time, she saw herself through the million studying eyes.

she was but a child playing a game of thrones, her bloodline's legacy hovering over her every step. she feared the descent into madness, as they all had.

the moment she's gotten back, barely a few minutes into greeting the people she'd missed so dearly, she was thrust back into an early meeting, one that has been left awaiting her arrival. Alina and Mal were there, Nikolai as well. it was a small thing, but she'd met the rest of the privateer's crew. they were fighters. fighters that believed in her.

in the short hour they'd went through all the things happened in the Lantsov's land, another truth had been thrown down on her, one she'd been anticipating for a long while coming. Aleksandar was alive, and as she'd dreamed of, his moves were the same, slowly collecting grisha to his cause. the country was slowly burying itself unevenly.

she'd feared the link bounding her to both him and the sun summoner and her amplifier itches at the thought. she'd known that that the Shu girl had obtained another, and for whatever unselfish reasons, she'd decided to split it in two, one she'd used and another for the queen.

she still hasn't decided whether to use it or not, especially with the power deficiency she was going through. she could feel it restoring itself, nothing but a few sparks of leftover fuse. but it was coming back torturous and slow, almost taunting.

her head tilts to the door on the left side, at the end of her bed and her heart jumps, the knock on it so sudden but so familiar. she sits up, back to the headboard. "come in!" she calls out softly, brows worried together but gaze soft nonetheless.

the wooden barrier creaks open and in comes her prince charming, lips pulled into a grin as he fakes a bow. "your grace." he moves his hand around dramatically, face brightening when he hears her laugh. he hoistens the bag slung over his shoulder higher as he steps further in and closes the door behind him.

Aeya gasps dramatically. "my, what would they think now? the prince of Ravka and the queen of everything else locked in one room." she teases, eyes twinkling with amusement as he settles at the end of her bed, shoes kicked off and back to one of the posts hanging from the four corners.

"sounds like the start to a bad joke." he shrugs with a small wink, lips pulled into a lazy smirk as he pulls the long bag over his lap then to the middle of the mattress, in front of her. she frowns with a soft smile, head tilting as she quints at the leather bound stuff and snatches it closer with wide eyes.

she assumed it was a gift. the prince did adore spoiling her. "what's this?" she chuckles with flushed cheeks, eyes crinkled at the side with joy. he simply shrugs and waves a hand nonchalantly. "you may be a good thief, but I'm a much better thief."

her chest shakes with a breathy laugh and her daint fingers start working the fastenings off, frowning more at the glimmer of silver. she pulls it all of in one go and her expression shifts, frozen in a mix of shock and surprise. "how the hell did you get these?"
