"Wolf stuff sucks," Abel says bluntly to the pack. "Bella was finally smiling again..."
Jacob winces at this. "I'm sorry, man," he says. "I have no say."
"No, I get it, your temper is hellish," Abel says honestly and Jacob nods softly. "I'm just worried that Bella will slip back again. Those months from September until January (it's February now), it was absolute torture."
"That's what Charlie was telling my dad," Jacob says. "I hate this."
"Hey, Abel," Billy Black greets as rolls in and he looks at his son. "Can you take the meatloaf out of the oven please?"
"Yeah, Dad," Jacob replies and he goes to the kitchen.
"How is it having Emmett back?" Billy asks with a genuine smile. He knows that mates are a lot like wolf imprints.
"It's been great so far," Abel says. "He's been staying with me and Lauren since he's the only one back."
"I understand that," Billy replies honestly and Jacob brings the food into the dining room and goes for dishes.
"Thanks for inviting me to stay," Abel says to Billy.
"Of course," Billy replies as Jacob comes back again with more meatloaf after the dishes. "The wolves eat like pigs."
"I know," Abel replies. "It's insane, but wolves are so... fascinating."
"Indeed they are," Billy says. "I've always been interested to know more about the Cold Ones. I only know what are in the tribe's stories."
"Carlisle told me all I know," Abel says. "Emmett tried, but Carlisle, he's been a vampire since 1640. He knows more. Vampires have laws."
Billy raises his eyebrows as they make the plates. "Really?"
"Yes," Abel replies. "It's all strange. I wasn't even through asking him questions."
"Maybe one day you can ask him more," Billy says. "Do you want to become one?"
"No," Abel replies. "Emmett says he can't wait to see me succeed in my human life. Said he'd be there for each milestone now that he's back."
"I'm glad," Billy says. "Now, enough supernatural talk. Let's eat."
"Let's," Jacob and Abel respond and they all eat their food.
