The next day, Abel drives to the Cullen mansion like he and Emmett planned via text message last night. He has no idea why Emmett wants him over, but he doesn't kind. He's sure he'll enjoy seeing Emmett outside of school.
Abel rings the doorbell and Carlisle opens the door.
"Oh, hi, Dr. Cullen," Abel greets.
"Oh, please, call me Carlisle," the doctor insists and lets Abel enter. He leads Abel upstairs. "This is my wife, Esme."
Esme walks over and she pulls Abel into a hug. She's ice cold but Abel doesn't mind. He awkwardly hugs her back before she pulls away as Emmett comes downstairs.
"Abe, hey," Emmett greets enthusiastically. "You're here."
"I just got here and I met Esme," Abel says. "Hi, Emmett,"
"Sorry, Esme." Emmett shoots her a playful wink before he pulls Abel upstairs with his strong, ice-cold grip.
"Your room's cleaner than I imagined," Abel admits.
Emmett looks at him, almost looking offended, but mostly, he looks amused. "Oh, really? How did you imagine my room?"
"I imagined that it looked like a tornado ripped through it."
"It naturally does," Rosalie says from the door. "He cleaned it for you just moments before you got here. Look in the closet."
"No-" Emmett winces when Abel opens the closet and stuff comes tumbling out and landing at Abel's feet. The vampire glares at Rosalie. "Why?"
Rosalie grins. "Hey, Abel... Are you hungry? Esme said she could make a snack or something."
"I'm not right now, but thanks," Abel replies.
Rosalie nods before she leaves. Emmett's shocked. Rosalie's finally being nice to Abel? It took her long enough.
"There's something we have to talk about," Emmett says as he sits on the futon. "Come sit with me?"
Abel nods and he walks over, joining Emmett on his black, leather futon. He runs his fingers through his already disheveled blue hair as he looks out the large window-wall that Emmett has that shows the woods, gorgeous.
"I love that wall, it's just a window and you can see that gorgeous view," Abel comments.
Emmett follows his eyes and he hums. "Yeah," he agrees. He loves his room. His room is directly across the hall from Edward's, to the telepath can see the same view. "That's why I chose this room."
Abel smiles before he looks at Emmett. "So, what did we have to talk about?"
"It's about me and my family," Emmett says. "We're not human."
Abel stares at him and frowns. "That actually makes some sense," he whispers and he bites his lip. "But also, it doesn't."
"You're confusing me," Emmett says. "How does it make sense, and how does it not?"
"No human is as gorgeous as you guys are," Abel replies bluntly and Alice giggles from her room with Jasper. "But it doesn't make sense because it's unnatural to be anything but human. People are born and they grow old and they die."
"That's how it's supposed to be, yeah," Emmett says as he hears Rosalie's sad sigh. "But vampires are real."
"Vam-" Abel gives him a look. "Please tell me you're joking. Vampires aren't real. They can't be."
"Why not?"
"Because as I just said! People grow old and they die!"
"Humans do," Emmett corrects snd he watches as Abel stands and walks over to the wall to look out onto the trees.
"Why are you telling me this?" Abel asks without looking at Emmett. He asked in a really low whisper and if Emmett hears him, Abel will believe him.
"Because, Abe, you're my mate," Emmett says. "We can merely be friends, but I didn't want the foundation of any kind of relationship between us to start on a massive secret. I didn't want to lie to you anymore. I can't lie to you, Abe, not anymore."
Abel turns to Emmett. "It's true. Vampires... are real?"
Emmett nods. He rushes around the room and Abel's eyes grow wide with fear and curiosity as Emmett stops in front of him. "That enough proof for you, Abe?"
"Ye-yeah," Abel replies. "God, I have so many questions, but I need some time to wrap my head around this."
Emmett exhales shakily. "I was scared of that."
"It won't be forever." Abel touches Emmett's forearm. "I just found out that vampires are real when I always though they weren't. I need to wrap my head around that before I ask my questions. I will want answers." He meets Emmett's eyes, the vampire tense. "Mate is short for soulmate, right?"
Emmett nods. "Yeah. It's usually rare for the mate of a vampire to be human," he admits. "But here you are."
"I thought you were straight."
"I'm... open-minded, or I guess fluid with the genders," Emmett says. "I like all wines, I don't care about the label."
"That's like Lauren Malloy, she said that's pansexual," Abel says to Emmett. His phone chimes and it's his cousin. "And I promised the rest of my day to Bella. I have to go. I'll come to you or one of your siblings as soon as I'm ready, okay?"
Emmett nods. "Okay. Take your time, Abe."
Abel backs up and he leaves. Rosalie joins Emmett once Abel is outside and going to the truck.
"That went better than expected," Rosalie says. "I'm surprised you told him about mates right away."
"I wanted to," Emmett says. "You're the one who likes withholding things, Rose."
"And you're the one who's very open about things, Em," Rosalie says softly as a counter. "You two will be good together."
Emmett looks up at her. "Really?"
Rosalie nods. "Yeah," she answers.
Emmett smiles and he looks out his window and Rosalie leaves him alone.
