The Cullens - minus Edward - are all sat around the den in silence after Edward leaves for Denali, Alaska for a while to avoid feeding on and killing the new student. Alice, the clairvoyant, zones out as she is pulled into a vision. The family all looks at her.

"Emmett Joseph McCarthy Cullen!" Alice says sharply and Emmett's eyes widen in shock at the full-name usage. "Why didn't you tell us you were gay?"

"I'm not gay," Emmett corrects. "I'm open minded. I don't care who it is. Why?"

"Your mate's coming to Forks soon, and your mate's a boy," Alice says softly and Emmett raises an eyebrow. "Don't worry, he's cute."

Emmett smirks but rolls his eyes. "He's not my Singer, is he?" he asks. "We all know I've had bad luck with them."

"No... he's your mate," Alice says as Rosalie loves on he mate, Evan Cullen (born in 1800, turned in 1819), on the sofa. "He is the cousin of Edward's Singer. His name is Abel Swan. He likes to color his hair, he enjoys watching sports but doesn't play them, he's artistic, and he is stereotypically gay by loving to shop. But out of us, he'll be best friends with the other female here."

Rosalie scoffs. "Unlikely," she says. "He's human."

"I've seen it, Rose," Alice says. "I know these things. Hell be best friends with you and with Evan. He and Evan have something to bond over."

"What do we have to bond over?" Evan asks and Alice gives him a look, not verbalizing her answer. His lip curls. "Oh... Damn."

"What?" Rosalie asks.

"How did I die, Rose?" Evan asks. Rosalie was the first person he ever opened up to after Carlisle and Esme about his death. He was beaten to death by his alcoholic, abusive father, Chris. "Wouldn't hurt to give him a chance."

Rosalie glares at her husband but he's unfazed by her looks. He looks at Emmett and sees that he is in deep thought.

Bella Swan is sitting on the floor in the living room at home doing her homework while Charlie Swan, her father, watches the news. Bella's cellphone rings and she sees a familiar contact name and smiles. It's Abel, her cousin. Abel Thomas Swan's father is Jason Kidd and Hilarie Swan. Hilarie is Charlie's younger sister by two years.

"Abel, hey," Bella greets and she hears a crash and glass breaking and she hears her Aunt Hilarie yelling in the background. "Abel?"

"Bella," Abel whispers. His voice is full of terror. "Bella, it's bad. It's real bad."

"Is it your dad?" Bella demands and Charlie mutes the tv and quickly looks at his daughter.

Bella puts the phone on speaker and Charlie hears his sister scream and he jumps up to grab his gun and to call to get policing privileges. His sister lives in Port Angeles with Jason and Abel.

"He found out I was gay," Abel whispers. "Mom's defending me..."

"ABEL! YOU LITTLE FA**OT! GET OUT OF HIDING, YOU LITTLE PU$$Y!" Jason's voice yells in the background.

"Jason, don't you dare!" Hilarie's voice demands but then there's a thud.

"I'm headed up there," Charlie says to Bella. "Keep Abel on the phone."

"Bella, he's killing my mom," Abel whispers. "I'm scared."

"My dad's on his way, Abel," Bella declares. She stands up and she walks over to the window beside the door, she sees Charlie peeling out of the driveway. "He's pulling out now. Abel, stay on the..." Bella pauses when a door opens.

"There you are."

Abel is drug out of the closet and Bella listens as he's beaten and he fights back. She knows that Abel is finally fighting back because he's buying time for the cops and Charlie. Bella hears Abel cry out in pain right before the sound of police and ambulance sirens fill the phone speaker.

Bella doesn't leave the house until Charlie calls the landline and says that Hilarie and Abel are being bright to Forks Hospital.
