My eyes frequently travelled to my phone placed discreetly on the shelf underneath the desk. I counted each minute as I waited for the bell to ring. With every minute checking the tickling clock, I was waiting for it to just finish and I could go back to my heaven. At least during school Sonam and I used to waste our times, playing- noughts and crosses or name, place, animal, thing. But here my bench mate, Noor Jahan is rather interested in the huge books of law.
I wasn't interested in knowing what punishment is awarded in dacoity versus robbery and their differences. Nor was I interested in knowing how a divorce is taken, or when does a marriage turn annulled. Perhaps I didn't know what I wanted to know, what I wanted to do in my life. Or my dream job, the thing I could earn money through.
Sweet sound of bell echoed in the halls. I quickly reached over to my tote, filling in my books, I stood up, I waited for my bench mate to pack her bag. Noor Jahan impressed me, when her thorough knowledge and interest in the field of law came to light, when the professors played a buzz game. She was the one to quickly answer. And I was at least glad they didn't hand out my results to be signed by the guardian. I was not again keen to get rebuked by my brother. The last night study's conversation was enough. I was fearful my brother might have in knowledge about the charm the Stranger did on me. To my luck that wasn't the case, he just wanted to discuss my studies.
My phone displayed the picture of my brother and I, receiving his call, I took my exit from the class after gesturing to Noor. He asked me- If I would be joining them for the lunch. Not wanted to be bored in a group of strangers, I denied him.
He finally agreed, when somewhere after the call disconnected, I regretted- missing on chance to go him.My eyes caught familiar bothersome guy, "Viraj!" I called out for him, when she saw him entering the same class I left, "you're pursuing law as well?"
"Suraj kahan se nikala hai? The Roshni Singhania ne humein saamne se aawaz lagai!" He ran a rough hand to his hair, pocketing it afterwards.
("Did sun rise from opposite direction? The Roshni Singhania talked to me on her own.")
"Answer my question, Viraj," Toughing up my mannerisms, I glared at the boy.
"Ji!" He nodded, "I'm in the seventh semester of law, same course as yours," he laughed, his arm extended to high-five with me? I glued my arms to my body.
My azure eyes rolled themselves, "toh uss din tumne mujhse kyun kaha ki law kar rahi ho batao kya karein?"
("The other day why did you asked me to do something as I'm pursuing law?")
"Again, which day?"
I looked around, whispered, "that day when we had to go to the police station."
