I turned to the other side, the moment I heard my door being opened. The corner of the blanket wiped my tears. I sat up straight, plastering a smile on my face. "Roshni baache, main andar aa jaun?" My sibling's voice engulfed with tenderness brought fresh tears into my eyes.
("Can I come in?")
"Please bhai, aaiye na," I threw the comforter at a side to make place for him. He reached to me. A hand placed of my head, affectionately. He took a seat in front of me. Our eyes met, I lowered mines.
("Please do.")
"Theek ho tum?" He asked and I nodded at him. I did not want him to be burdened any further with my problems and me. "I'm sorry," I raise my head up, my fingers clasp onto his wrist.
("You're good?")
I shake my head, "aap kyun aise keh rahe hain, main theek hui mujhe kuch nahi hua hai." He shouldn't have had apologised specially on mistake of mine. He didn't pressed further on the topic. We sit in quietness, when he texted back a continuous ringing call. An ebony tinted stray strand shone on his white shirt as if owning it. I reach to remove it, soon I pull back my arm. As if it was its right to be over his shirt. He shifts back his attention to me, "aapne Niharika ko kuch kaha toh nahi?" He remained quiet, in a deep trance. "Please unhe kuch mat kahiyega," His jaw clenches, eyes turn hard, "Woh aapse bauth pyaar karti hai bhai, unke bhi dil ka khayal rakhiyega," His features soften. He cupped a side of my face.
("I'm good, why are you saying otherwise? You didn't say anything to Niharika, right? Don't say anything to her, she really loves please take care of her")
"Sabke dil ka khayal rakhte rakhte, apne aap ko kab tak hurt karne wali ho tum?" His hand and my smile drops. Before I could say anything, he adds, "main tumhe hurt hote nahi dekh sakta hoon, Roshni uske liye mujhe jo karna pade main woh karuga lekin tumhe main aur pain me nahi rehne de sakta hoon."
("How long are you going to hurt yourself for the sake of keeping others okay?" I cannot you see in pain, and I will do anything possible and imposing to get you out of it.")
I gulp. His sincerity and love towards me, make me guilty further. I will do each and everything for this person in front of me even if it is on my expense. "Bhai, I'm not hurt, I promise. It was just a misunderstanding and Niharika and I will talk it out." My tongue darts out to lick my dry lips, "Niharika is good, she's caring and really has started to fall for you." Circumstances had forced him to grow up quick and parent for his sibling. He was allowed to live for himself and I will make him realise that.
"How are your classes going on?" He questions.
I smile, "pretty good."
"What's your new friend's name?" A brow raised. His tone turned lighter, the creases on his forehead vanished, "Noor- Noor Jahan, right?"
