Those two days drove me insane as I was this far from Brandon. Friday night, we kept talking on the phone for past midnight. But it still wasn't enough for me. I always want more.
We talked about almost everything. He told me about his grandma and how he used to spend the weekends at her house when he was younger. He told me about his childhood. It sounded normal, just like mine. I did catch when things went wrong for him.
He even talked about Alex and how they were inseparable. Growing up, Brandon always looked at Alex as an idol. It all changed after Alex joined college and knew that Brandon was gay. He bacame an asshole to him.
Brandon opened up really well that night. I knew more about what he likes and what he doesn't like. What he never tried and what he was forbiddened to try. I just knew I had new missions coming up.
This time, Brandon fell asleep while talking to me. I could hear his breaths getting heavier. I listened to it for a while.
"Sleep well, baby. I love you." I whispered before hanging up. Not too long, I hit the hay myself.
Saturday night came along, and I was sitting in my truck, waiting for Eva to join me. I didn't dress up for the team gathering or anything. Just a pair of black sweatpants and a black hoodie with a black coat on top. It was Brandon approved.
I kept texting Brandon while waiting that I didn't even notice Eva until she got in the car.
"Why are you picking me up in your hunting truck?" That was the first thing she said, furrowed strangely.
"It's a long story. Shall we go?" I sighed.
"Yes, of course. You look too excited." She said sarcastically.
I shackled. "I told you coach Lee made me. I usually skip those gatherings. But since the game is tomorrow, I gotta go." I shrugged, driving toward the main highway.
"Anyways, do I look like I would fit in there? I tried to dress up like one of the block kids."
"What?" I laughed. I took a fast look at her baggy jeans and her striped fitted cropped sweater. She did her hair in multiple braids. "I think you look good, like one of the block kids." I laughed again. "The fuck are you saying!" I mumbled.
"Thank godness!"
A few minutes passed in silence. Eva was checking her phone while I was busy focusing on the road and traveling with my head to somewhere else.
"Hey!" Eva caught my attention by poking my shoulder. "Are you even here?"
"Yeah, sorry! What is it?"
"I was asking if there'll be anyone that I should keep distance with. Anyone's annoying?" She asked.
"Uh?" I thought a little bit. "I don't know who'll be there other than the team members, but I guess Janice will be there. Or the turbulence gang. Both are bullies. I hate them." I crumbled my nose to the memory.
"Isn't Janice the same annoying girl you share classes with?"
"That's her. The loud twink. She'll try to get closer to me tonight, so keep an eye on her. Plus, you're my girlfriend during tonight, okay?" I looked at her for an agreement.
She laughed. "What a way to ask! I just remembered the first time you asked me to be your girlfriend, remember?" She kept laughing.
"Oh, fuck you, Eva!" I laughed too. "That was hell embarrassing. Elementary school or kindergarten? I don't remember."
"It was the first grade of elementary school. Lunch break, and you picked up a dead flower from the playground and gave it to me. I sneezed at your face, and that was the day I knew I was allergic to flowers."
