We rushed to the hospital the minute Brandon lost his consciousness in my lap. The way his body lay loose in there freaked me out. I wrapped my arms around his tiny body, tightening my grip and keeping his face closer to mine.

He was breathing barely, but he was still breathing. I let loose of my tears. I was trembling, causing his body to tremble with mine.

Mom was trying to do anything. She even was trying to calm me. Dad was speeding up anyway.

We got to the hospital. I skipped a gasp. They were going to take him away from me!

They did. They put us apart when they pulled him, grabbed him hard from my arms, and took him into the er. I was refusing to let go.

For the next half an hour, I was left behind all clueless and lost. Mom was keeping my company in the waiting room, while dad was raking care of everything, starting from Brandon's condition to the hospital bills.

Not too long, dad joined us. I grabbed his sleeve as if it were a life jacket. I was waiting for the answers. Somebody please tell me what's wrong with my boyfriend.

My dad sighed and rubbed my back. "You should calm down. You don't want Brandon to see like this once he wakes up, do you?" He pressed his lips into a smile.

"What do you mean?" I gulped to the slightest light at the end of the tunnel.

"He suffers from malnutrition and dehydration. It's a natural reflex for his body to collapse at a certain point. They gave him a drip, and he'll be awake in no time. Once he comes home, I'll make sure that this won't be an issue anymore. His health will be our number one priority."

He was nodding his head, reassuring me, smiling softly. I hugged him. I cut the space between us in no second thought. I was glad he's by my side. I would've never asked for more.

"Thank you." I whispered truly out of my heart.

Dad chuckled. "I never thought you were capable of love this much, but here you are." He leaned back and took my face between his palms. "You grew up to be such a wonderful man, Jimmy." He smiled proudly. "You're responsible, genuine, and trustworthy. I'm proud of you, son."

I felt like that somehow all the exhaustion and pain I was feeling had washed away. My dad never complement. He always tells the truth. And those words were coming straight out of his heart. I was grateful.

While I was surrounded by my parents, receiving love and being prepared to give it back to my boyfriend, my eyes caught the sight of Alex. Brandon's brother is coming from the reception lawn towards us. His parents were right behind him.

I left my seat and springed up, alerted. My dad followed.

"I'm gonna go check on Brandon." Mom said before leaving the room. I'm sure she left to protect Brandon.

"What are they doing here?" I asked dad.

"The hospital asked for a guardian. Our situation is not official, so I had to call his parents. He's a minor, after all."

I understand.

When they approached us. I couldn't really read the atmosphere. They looked worried! Alex looked worried!

I was defensively blocking the way, standing there ready to throw hands, even if they looked that worried. They can't deceive me.

Mr Reed approached dad. "The hospital called. What happened? Where's Brandon?"

Dad moved aside, leading Brandon's father to where Brandon's room is. "Why don't we talk while going to his room?" So, my dad led the way, leaving me and Alex standing there.
