I ran through the front door of school, trying to make it to class. I was late. The subways were crowded than usual. So I made it half an hour late for the first period.

I excused myself into class and went straight to my seat behind Nate. I read the word 'Monster' written on my desk, but I sat anyway.

Nate passed me some notes. I took it and kept my head down for the rest of the time until the class was dismissed.

Nate turned around. "What took you so long?"

"Subways." I rolled my eyes.

"Your dad is still on grounding you?" He lifted up a brow.

"Until he says so." I shrugged. "Have you seen Brandon?" I fixed my sight on him.

He nodded. "Yeah, I saw him this morning. He rushed to class without talking to me." He paused a little. "Are you managing on something?"

"No. He just left some of his stuff in my place."

"Why don't you just wait for him to ask for it. That will force him to talk to you."

"He won't. At this point, his pride is more important." I said while packing my books.

"I see." Nate followed me. He winced, remembering something. "Wait! Is that your plan of  getting him back' you said the other day?" He chuckled.

I tilted my head, furrowing. "No."

He raised both his eyebrows. "Are you planning on doing something? Ever?"

I thought for a while. "I don't have a plan, but... I'm not giving up on him."

"I still don't know what you've done, though, but I'm here for any help." He gave me a half smile, hitting my shoulder.

Nate was the one who's keeping me sane inside these walls. Him keeping my company was enough for me not to lose my shit. I was being bullied verbally on a daily basis, but whenever I'm with him, everyone kept a distance. He's the captain of the basketball team, after all.

When we were sitting in the cafeteria, we were peacefully eating our lunch and secretly waiting for Brandon to show up. He opened up to me about his girlfriend and showed me her pictures. She's our age but she goes to a different school. She seemed nice and suitable for him.

I checked my watch, constantly.

"Stop checking your watch. He won't show up in here." Nate was right, but him spitting facts like this irritated me. I sighed impatiently.

Out of nowhere, Nate called for a boy from the basketball team. He goes to the same classes with Brandon.

"Hey! Holland!" He called for the kid and caught his attention. "Did you see Brandon after class?"

The kid thought a little. He shook his head. "No. He didn't attend the previous class."

"Do you know why?" Nate asked.

The kid shrugged. "I don't know. He just walked out of there."

"Okay, thanks."

I winced, standing up and getting ready to leave.

Fuck! I was alerted. Why would he skip on a class? Something must have happened.

Nate stood up as well. "Where are you going?"

"I'll check on his spot. He might be there."

Nate followed me silently while I was taking my way to the rooftop.

Different emotions were flowing inside of my chest. I was worried that he might be hurt in any way. Yet, my worry was mixed with a slight amount of anger. I might get angry if he was intentionally skipping on classes.
