Mahinoor's P. O. V

After barely finishing my food I went outside to the backyard to catch a breath of fresh air. It felt so suffocating just being in there with the whole family's eyes on just Rehan and I. It was worse enough before but I now think that was just the beginning of the torture that was yet to come.

Swinging my legs back and forth in the cool water, I think about the suggestion Roza had made, maybe running away was my only option out of this ridiculous situation. But how? Roza sleeps in my room at night and if Amma and Abba grilled her enough she'll blurt everything out, where I am, who I am with, where I plan to go. "Hey," Rehan said sitting down beside me causing me to jump slightly.

Looking at him dumbfounded I say, "Alittle warning next time would be nice."

"I said your name multiple times but I guess you were too lost in your thoughts." He responded

"I wanted to be alone," I sighed, "Everyone just keeps watching us as if we are magically going to confess our long-lost love for each other."

He chuckled, "I know it's getting a bit creepy."

Comfortable silence took over us.

"Rehan?"

"Mhm?"

"I don't want to marry you," I said quietly, "Please do something."

"I tried talking to them yesterday," He exhaled heavily, " I do not know what the obsession of coming together is for. . . Baba and Amma didn't even let me finish my sentence before threatening to cut me off from everything. If I want to keep my inheritance to the company and keep my life in New York they want me to marry you."

Panic filled my body, "Rehan, you have a girlfriend"

"I know, but this company is everything that I worked for. I have busted my ass getting it to the point it is and I cannot just watch it be handed off to someone else." He argued, "Like they are blackmailing you with your schooling they are doing the same with my work."

"Why did you have to come to see me when I was born?" I whispered, "Should have just stayed home."

Rehan laughed humourlessly, "The funny thing is that I was supposed to stay. home with Nanu, Ayaan, and Jannah that day, but I was so excited to have another little sister to play with I begged. Amma and Baba to take me to see you."

Surprised I turn towards him, "Really?"

"Yeah," He admitted, "But I had no idea that my Amma ridiculous suggestion was going to. carry on till this day. I was ten, and all I did was promise to protect. you just as I would protect Jannah, and. it turned into this instead." It was an innocent promise, from an innocent kid, turned. into. a lifetime of complete harassment from our parents.

"Hey future Mr and Mrs Khan, come inside our parents want to talk about the wedding. prepations." Roza said sarcastically walking towards us, giving her a pointed look I waited for her to come to a complete stand infront of us. "What?"

"Don't call us that," I said,

"Whatever, since Rehan Bhai is here it is going to happen one day or another.  Am I right Rehan Bhai?"

Rehan gave her an awkward smile, "Sure Roza,"

"Roza, bohot boli  rahi ho tum." (You have said enough Roza.) I snapped, "Go inside,"

"Why are you getting mad at me?" She snapped back, "Rehan Bhai, did I say anything wrong? It is not like you. are going. to. tell Massi and. Masard about your. girlfriend and Api, you are not going to run. away. So the outcome? Marriage."
