Mahinoor's P.O.V (2 months later)
"You two have booked your flights right?" Amma asked as I finished cooking dinner. Rehan rolled his eyes as he set the dinner table. We hadn't really talked about going back. home, because there had been a lot of fluctuation with deciding. when or how Janah Api's wedding was going to be. At times Khala would say it was going to be a simple Nikkah, and then at other times, it would be all the functions, and glamor. Rehan and I decided to stay out of it, for our own mental peace, and to work on ourselves, and our marriage. It has been going really well, surprisingly, sure we argue here and there, but there is nothing that alittle, makeup sex cannot fix, and communication as well.
"Woh, Amma." (Um. . .Amma) I began trying to think of an excuse, "Rehan and I-" I lifted up my phone to block her phone from Rehan but it was too late because she had already seen him.
"Rehan kahan hai?" (Where is Rehan?) She asked firmly, "Use phone do." (Give him the phone.)
Rehan sighed gesturing me to hand him the phone, walking over to him defeated I handed him the phone. "Ji Khala?" (Yes Khala?)
"Why have you two booked your tickets yet?" Amma asked, "Rehan, it is your little sister's wedding, you have to be here."
"Khala, there literally hasn't been a date set for it yet." Rehan argued, "The minute I get all the information, I will drop everything and come, you know that."
"I am telling you now, the next time that I speak to both of you, I need pictures of your tickets of coming back home." Amma said sternly, "It has been almost four months since you two have been married, and left here. A visit is. due, whether or not the wedding is finalized."
Rehan looked over at me tiredly, "Mahi and I will get back to you as soon as we can Khala. She has school and I have work, we cannot just drop it and come visit. We will let you know by the end of the week." See if I spoke to Amma like that, it would have been the end of the world, but because he had spoken to her like. that, it was okay. "Okay?"
"Okay," Amma sighed in defeat, "You two enjoy your dinner."
"We will, goodnight," Rehan said before hanging up the phone and handing it back to me. "That went as well as it could."
Taking the phone back I tucked it back into my pocket, and brought over the dishes I made, "Amma usually doesnt take no for an answer, so this time frame you asked for will give us enough time to figure stuff out with both school and work."
He sat down across from me, "Janat called me this morning and said. that Amma had finalized the date for next week, and it will have all the rituals."
"So it is finalized?" I asked passing him the naans I made,
"It is finalized, but I just need to organize a few things at work and we will be good to go back home. I just didnt want Khala to come under the impression that they can still pressurize how they used to. You and I are married now Mahi, we have a life outside of their needs and wants so, that's why I made that statement."
Understandable, Amma wasn't really asking, she was demanding us to come back home. There is a difference between the two, and we definitely were in a stage where boundaries definitely came into play now. Whether they were with our family, or just in between us. . our honeymoon phase has slowly begun to fade away now, and I can definitely feel it. Rehan and I still adore each other, but the faiths have been getting more frequent, but one deeper issues and boundaries were the most major ones.
"Do you think your school load will be able to handle taking a break?" Rehan asked me,
"Um. . "I think over my schedule, "I think so actually, we have two more final exams, tommorow and the day after, and then we have a buffering period in the middle."
