. . . 20 YEARS LATER. . .

Mahinoor's P.O.V.

"Baba this is not fair!" I argued throwing my hands up in the air, "You said that it is okay if I go to New York for my further studies where did Rehan. come from now?!"

"Api," Feroza whispered tugging at the back of my shirt, "Stop,"

"Roza," I snapped taking a step away from her, "Baba, please." I begged, "Can't this stupid marriage-"

"Mahinoor!" He yelled,

My breath hitched as I took a step back flinching at his raised hand, the room fell silent, and I could hear Ammi's footsteps quicken. as she came to the office. She covered her mouth shocked, Baba had never raised his hand on any of us, this was his first time. "Ahad," She said quietly coming to stand beside him, Baba slowly. lowered his hand breathing out heavily.  Ammi looked at me sadly, "Mahi," She began,  "Rehan, is coming in less than 24 hours to Huntsville. Once you two get engaged, then-"

"Ammi," I stopped her, "I am not going to get engaged to him"

"Mahi," She said firmly, "Bas Karo," (Stop)

Baba took a step back as Roza stood beside me, this was how it always is, Feroza and I on one. side while Baba and Ammi on the other, "Rehan and you were promised to each other a long  time ago."

I have heard this phrase thousands of times by now, the first time I heard it was when I had a crush on a boy in the fourth grade, since then and till now, "Rehan should be your crush," or "Do not think about anyone other than him," or "When you are married to Rehan then you can do whatever you want."

School was the only thing that I had going for myself, and I even got into the best University in New York, but that still wasn't enough. . why? Because of my marriage to their beloved Rehan. was more important.

Angerily storming off followed by Roza I slam our bedroom door shut, "What the fuck!" I scream into my pillow trying to muffle it as much as possible.

"Api," Roza said quietly trying to comfort me, "Maybe try to talk to Rehan Bhai-"

"Shut up!" I snapped, throwing a pillow at her, "I do not want to hear his fucking name again." Standing up I pace around the room I could feel anger pulsing through my veins, "I HATE him, I swear to fucking god if he comes infront of me tommorow. I am going to choke him the fuck out."

Roza sighed sitting down on her bed, "You are not going to do that,"

"I will! Or at least I want to Roza, you know how much of my teenage years have gone to shit because of the stupid agreement they made before I could open my eyes."

Roza held onto my hand stopping me from pacing  around, "Api, run."

I look at her shocked, "Excuse me?"

"If you do not want to talk to Rehan Bhaiya. then the only option is to run from all this, chase your dreams." She said quietly, "Yeah Baba and Ammi would be mad, but once they see how good you are at what you want to do, they will be so proud."

I wanted to, I wanted to but I couldnt do that. Pulling away from her I lay on my bed staring up at the ceiling "Not going to happen, Roza,"

"Then call Rehan Bhaiya." She said firmly, "I am sure this is just as much of an inconvenience for him as it is to you."

I rolled my eyes, "Yeah such a fucking inconvenience. He has been able to do anything he. wants, he has a job, he went to school, he has dated girls, and a stable career while living in New York. Rehan is libing my dream."
