Mahinoor's P.O.V.
"Kise ki nazar na laga,"(I hope no evil-eye gets to you) Amma said, as I walked down the stairs, ready for Rehan's side of the dholkii. They had come as guests yesterday and now it was our turn to be guests in his dholki. Breathing out heavily I smile half-heartedly at her, I still had so many questions in my mind that I wanted to ask Rehan, that I never got to ask yesterday night. After all the guests had left, Rehan, Azlaan, and Alizeh were the first to leave, as Khala and Khalu stuck around for a bit talking about tonight's arrangments.
"Chale?" (Shall we go?) I ask, adjusting my dupatta.
"Someone is eager to meet their Mister," Nehmat made fun of me.
Amma chuckled, "Tejo, dont bother her too much otherwise we will have to beg her to go to their house."
"Amma," I sighed. I was in no mood for this teasing session that was going on, I wanted to go to that house and put my mind to rest. Rehan had Alizeh who knew about the plan, and Azlaan but he forbade me from telling anyone. I needed to talk to him.
"Chalo," (Let's go) She said, "Roza and your Baba are already there helping with preparations."
Nodding I held onto Nhemat's arm for support as we walked. out, these. heels were way too high for me to walk in, but my dress would get ruined if I wore anything shorter than what I had on. I just hope he is easy to find, without Alizeh around him when we get there.
. . .
Walking into the Khan Household, my breath hitched by the beautiful decorations that were all over the home. A soft smile comes on my face as Kinza Khala greets me, "Mashallah," She whispered pulling me in a tight hug, "Bohot khoobsurat lag rahi ho." (You look very beautiful)
"Thank you, aap bhi bohot achi lag rahi ho." (Thank you. You look very pretty as well.) I compliment her back,
Khala guides me over to a small swing, "Sit here, Rehan bus aata hi hoga." (Sit here, Rehan will be down soon) No, I needed to talk to him alone.
"Woh," (I-) I say quickly stopping Khala, "I need to go to the bathroom Khala,"
Khala furrowed her eyebrows, "Theek hai, toh jao." (Okay, then go)
I needed the upstairs bathroom, "Woh-" (I-) I tried to think of an excuse, I pulled her closer, "I need pads," I said quietly, "Can I use Jannah Api's bathroom?"
Khala nodded her head, I looked over at Nehmat and shot her a quick text, so my lie is up kept as I made my way upstairs. 'If Amma asks, tell her I am on my period. I am going upstairs to talk to Rehan.' I type. Soon after I got a response, 'Got it,' she texted back.
