During a mission to Mars, an intercepted transmission was received by both the Shadow Covenant and the Galactic Federation. The voice of the message: Queen Savathun I.

Savathun was considered by both sides to be loyal to no one but herself as did her loyal followers of her kingdom. Despite her background and her story, she was not considered an ally by anyone of them. As a member and ruling member of the Hivus Royal Family, she was the Queen of the Hive homeworld, Hivus Secundus aka the Capital. Her brother Oryx was pro Shadow Covenant as was her sister and her nephew while some were pro- Galactic Federation but she had no idealism or pro-anything to the two sides.

Her followers were the same. As such, they ruled over the Hive homeworld and tried everything to remain as a single faction with no loyalty to anyone.
But they did however worship light like those in the Galactic Federation and they managed to weaponize it for their purposes. They built so many things that later fell into the Shadow Covenants hands but were very tempting.

With a new army powered by Light, Savathun launched a military raid on Mars where fighting raged on for almost a month. The ship she sent known as Hivus Prime, was the largest constructed in the fleet much like her brother's dreadnought.

In a matter of time, GDC troops took care of the situation on Mars but were surprised to see that she managed to craft weapons and equipment made from the light itself. The Light Spirit himself was shocked and horrified. They knew if Savathun was planning on using these weapons, she would overpower them both. And they had no idea of her intentions since she was known as the Goddess of Tricks.

GDC troops were quickly deployed in order to quell the rising tensions as was the Shadow Covenant but both sides did not really see each other as equal or having one common enemy. So eventually, they brought the war to them.

Hivus Secundus was destroyed within a matter of months and seconds. The Capital city was placed under control of all fighting forces in the area. And the lush green forests became battle zones. GDC forces managed to make a quick outpost near the outskirts of the city while the landing zones provided were near the city walls.

The Hive Guard and local fighters fought to the bitter end but were no match for the fighting powers. Shadow Covenant troops established bases and territory all over and quickly dispatched the Scorn to deal with this new enemy.

But even when he knew of the darkness and the threat Savathun posed to him, Dark Master was mighty impressed with her resources and her determination to keep the Hive alive. He once tried to give her a chance to join his alliance and of course she refused even though she had the same amount of hatred towards the Galactic Federation as did the Shadow Covenant.

But some members of her faction soon deserted and switched sides. Her royal court even considered allying themselves with the Shadow Covenant and some of her own troops turned on one another. About 3.2 million Hive deserted and defected to the Shadow Covenant while only 1 million remained loyal to the queen.

Then in a huge surprise, one of her own Hive Ghosts she created turned on her and began to devote himself to the Galactic Federation as he had believed in the path towards peace. Of course being an informant and early deserter, his new Allies did not trust him as much but they worked with him either way. Eventually, he would become one of the many deserters that brought glory to the GDC.

Battles raged all across the Hive homeworld. Cities were reduced to rubble, the local population was increasingly violent and was causing havoc amongst the GDC and the Shadow Covenant, and rising increases of deserted Hive was skyrocketing. The Queen needed to do something to keep her people together or else it was the end of her rule.

The Capital was eventually under GDC control but the Shadow Covenant managed to control most of the sectors of the planet. The Queen fled the fighting and made refuge to a small island just south of the mainland. Shadow Covenant forces eventually took another big city center and made it their occupation capital.
