With the war soon coming to the side of the Galactic Federation, thousands of planets later joined the fight. It was here that saw a turning point in the war.
The many systems that once fell under Shadow Covenant rule began to rise up and take arms against them. Some of these planets even had Pro-Galactic Federation sentiment. With this, GDC aligned militias with the help of their Allie's came together to purge the threat.
Within a few months, many systems fell under GDC control and those that remained under Shadow Covenant control would be forced to evacuate per the Shadow Council's orders. But some planets would still have many battles waging from all over the galaxy.
Cities were finally liberated and planets were now returning to their daily lives, before long, the Shadow Covenant had begun to fracture. Those who were once loyal to the Shadow Covenant and the Dark Master found themselves at the hands of rebels and were killed or taken into custody for their crimes against the galaxy.
In one such case was during the Black Heart Campaign when VEX loyalist troops and Shadow Covenant forces were attacked at the Black Garden which was the sight of a previous battle during the Great Galactic Crisis. Their orders were to make a second version of the Black Heart that would help with overpowering their troops with a dark power that would've hopefully been beneficial to the war effort.
But thanks to the Guardians, the plan had failed and the last ditch attempt to save what was left of the Shadow Empire had failed so much. Planets that once saw the fiercest battles of the war finally were being liberated and many of the people there rejoiced and treated their liberators like heroes.
In the capital city of Ethos Prime, news of the recent victories in the war effort made it all the way home and soon millions of people joined the GDC. This was it. The day when peace would finally return to the galaxy after 2 years of war and fighting.
But while some planets were liberated, there was still fierce fighting and lots of reconstruction had to be made. And even so, some planets even had contingency holdout groups of Shadow Covenant that still fought on even when the evacuation order was given because they either never received the order or they were willing to fight to the bitter end.
But when they were unable to defend themselves or put up a real fight with casualties and supply shortages.
By this point in time, most of the holdouts surrendered and those that remained either left the planets they once were stationed on or fled to the far reaches of space.
In Europa, Shadow Covenant holdouts continued to fight in the Colonial Capital City until fighting stopped when the Governor of Europa who was granted the title by Shadow Covenant forces immediately ordered all forces to surrender.
In Neomuna, efforts to quell Shadow Covenant insurgents and separatist factions was quickly going underway as many battles were waged all across the city.
Battles in the Orion Sector were Galactic Federation victories.
And the Siege of Dreaming City was coming to an end.
The moon had officially become a military outpost as well as a military base that would provide logistical support and tactical support within the galaxy so it served as a Front Operations Base.
With the Shadow Covenant now losing ground much more quickly than ever, their leaders knew that they needed to regain their strength in order to continue the fight. So many of the fleets received the orders to retreat from the system and to head into the portal where the Shadow Covenant would make their final stand.
Any soldier that remained out of the portal was not spared and those who were considered as weak or dispensable was killed off by either the enemy or their own.
Soon what was left of Shadow Covenant would later be disintegrated into only just small factions out in space and only a single planet that was losing control over the war effort.
Before the war, at least 8 billion people from either loyal Shadow Covenant factions and worlds joined the army and soon only 1.5 million were left as its contingency.
The Dark Master along with the remaining members of the Shadow Council quickly devised a plan that would hopefully make their situation better and with the help of the locals who were subjugated to the harsh Shadow Covenant rule, their numbers would increase just a bit.
Villages within the planet including the local capital city of Neuvak were ordered to have their populations serve in the army and anyone who disobeyed the order was tortured or sentenced to death.
At that point, millions joined the Shadow Covenant Army or what remained of it and joined the newly created detachments that were either under equipped or did not have enough weapons, or relied on captured weapons and even outdated weapons.
What remained of the Shadow Covenants industrial capacity had to churn out millions of weapons and equipment for the troops which was being fueled by the planets decreasing natural resources reserves.
The slave population of the Shadow Covenant was also forced into the war themselves and soon they had to work by producing the weapons their masters tested on or even serve in the army.
Training for the locals that served in the army was for about 3 months which was not that long but didn't give them much experience in combat. Even the ones who were in warrior status didn't have much experience to shooting a blaster or even throwing grenades.
The weakest ones or cannon fodder of the army were assigned to special detachments that would soon be the first ones on the front line along with the elite divisions that always had a birds eye view over them and shot anyone who was about to desert or rebel.
Defenses along the planets villages and cites were quickly established no sooner or later which included the infantrymen, the heavy weapons and artillery implants, strongholds and bases, and even included the most important defenses of all: The War Fleet.
What once was an influential empire made up of aliens, robots, and even humans that conquered and enslaved the galaxy wherever they went now was only a small warlord faction that didn't have enough to defend itself.
The soldiers who remained loyal to the Shadow Covenant quickly became new commanders and officers at a time when more competent and more highly experienced or well trained soldiers was at a all time low. Veterans of many battles and campaigns also found themselves in that position especially with training the new conscripts who they seemed to hate a lot for their whiny attitude towards fighting.
Soon the numbers were increased but not to the original number they once had.
The remains of the Shadow Covenant fleet were orbiting the planet, defenses were being laid, soldiers were waiting for orders, and the Shadow Council was ordered to protect what was left of their territory.
And Dark Master himself was waiting for the proper moment to show the galaxy his true power.
The real fight was about to begin.
