S C A R L E T
Sitting at the dinner table with the kids, Raiden, and Sam almost seemed normal. Except for the fact that, Raiden, Sam, and I were going on a dangerous mission to save one of my nieces.
Also, there is always that one possibility of one of us not returning. But I shouldn't think like that, I should think positive.
I looked down at my plate full of mashed potatoes, and eggs.
Funny, I used to hate eggs. I couldn't even stand the smell or sight of them. Yet here I am, eating them.
"When is Nya coming home?"
My head snapped up at the question. Sam stopped chewing, and Raiden placed his cup of orange juice down.
I looked at Samuel, not sure how to respond.
"Soon" Sam said, her voice not wavering.
I nodded at the little boy.
Samuel nodded, making his dirty blonde almost brown hair flow up and down. I gave him a small smile, as to assure him. He smiled back, showing his pearly whites. We weren't exactly blood related, but I still considered him my nephew.
I even remember holding him when he was a baby. I chuckled at the memory, only because he looked like an old man when he was an infant.
"Do you think Nya is okay?" Alize asked, her voice barley more than a whisper.
I looked up at Alize, and nodded.
"I hope so" I said.
Alize nodded and took another bite out of her food. Everyone continued to eat in peace. It was so quiet, compared to how it used to be.
"I'm not hungry" Alex said, looking down at his full plate.
I sighed, and groaned in annoyance. He always does this. I swear it's like he has no stomach when it comes to food.
"Alex, you have to eat" I told him.
Alex shook his head, insisting on not having to eat. I pointed at his food and gave him a stern look.
"Eat or you'll be on cleanup duty for a week" I said.
It was times like these that I felt like the mother in the house.
Alex shook his head and groaned. But to my satisfaction he took a large bite out of his food. He glared at me the whole time he chewed. I cracked a smile, trying to stop myself from laughing.
"Can I come with you to get Nya?" Alize asked.
I looked at Alize, and shook my head firmly. She slouched in disappointment.
"But-"
"No buts, Alize. Its too dangerous for you or any of the kids to come." Sam said.
Alize pouted and crossed her arms over her chest.
"I wasn't talking to you" Alize told Sam, siting up again.
Sam raised a brow at her comment. I had to restrain myself from "ooing" at Alize's comment.
Everyone in this household knows not to give Samantha attitude. Even I know, but I still do it anyway.
"Say it again" Sam threatened.
Alize didn't meet Sams eyes, and slouched in her chair again.
"That's what I thought" Sam said.
I rolled my eyes at her behavior. I scraped some mash potato with my fork, and ate it. I then took a sip of my orange juice.
"Raiden, Sam, and I will be leaving at dawn to go and get Nya. That means everyone will be asleep when we leave." I told all the kids.
