I held up a closed fist, signaling everyone to stop walking and to be quiet. I heard something. It wasn't Samantha and Roman's conversation about the show The Office, it was actually a shuffle in the bushes. I looked behind us to see Samantha looking around skeptically while Roman and Raiden froze in their spots not making a sound.
*snap*
I immediately dove behind a bush, Sam hid behind a tree, and after a few seconds Roman and Raiden ran behind a fallen tree. Both of them had the weight of the food bags to carry so I didn't blame them for their late reactions. I held on tightly to my honey badger and after counting thirty seconds I slowly lifted my head up to see if we had been caught.
Nothing.
I saw nor heard nothing. I waited another forty-five seconds before standing up and walking over to Samantha.
I felt like we were being watched, and something told me that I was right.
*bang!*
shots were fired. Sam grabbed me by my arm and tugged me behind the tree with her. My heart was pounding loudly against my chest, now realizing that I could have been shot.
"Behind the tree!" I heard a masculine voice shout.
I had to bite back my cuss word that was wanting to escape. We were caught. The army men had found us. I quickly looked to my right and left, trying to find an escape route. That's when I saw it.
A truck.
It was almost perfect timing because the truck was just sitting there. It seemed a little too perfect, until I saw the driver. The same person I had saved less then a few days ago. The same person I'm ashamed to call my brother.
Moses.
I nudged Samantha in the shoulder and pointed to the truck, she recognized my brother as well, and used the walkie talkie she had. Roman had the other one.
"Army truck to our left, Scarlet and I will cover you while you two run to it. Copy." Sam ended.
A few seconds later and Roman replied.
"Copy."
I held up my honey badger and looked through the scope. Once I found a very well camouflaged military man, I aimed for his arm knowing it couldn't kill him, I quickly pulled the trigger.
I continued to shoot them while Sam did as well. We weren't exactly aiming, but we were trying to distract them. I felt Roman and Raiden run behind us, and I stopped shooting for a second to see if they made it to the truck safely.
They did.
I hid behind the tree again, to reload, Sam did as well. I quickly took out the empty magazine, and traded it with the full one I was carrying. Sam did the same.
"We run on three." I told her calmly.
My shoulder ached a bit from the gun's kick back. I'm not gonna lie, when I first started using this honey badger, I couldn't move my arm for days. That's how much it hurts.
