"Mamma? are we going bye bye?" Alex asked.
I payed no mind to the four year old, but instead kept my gaze out the window. It was getting dark, and I didn't like it, not one bit. I don't like the dark, I always believed it's where the demons and creatures of the dead hid, it's childish, but everybody has at least one fear, there's no such thing as a fearless human.
The trees we passed were a blur, and the only thing I could catch was the green colored leaves, and dark brown bark. The road was deserted; empty almost. Street lamps were lit, and ready to shine the way for people to see their paths with the help of the moon, which shined as bright as day.
"Yes Alex, we need to go to a better place, go to bed its late, ok?" My mom replied, her tone soothing and soft.
I looked back at Alex, to see him look out the right window.
"But I not tired" He said keeping his eyes out the window.
I turned my attention back to the front, and looked back out my window.
"Just try to go to bed, sweetheart" My mom said, looking at Alex through the rear view mirror.
I also looked back at Alex, to see him slump into his carseat, with his arms crossed and a slight pout on his cute little features.
"Fine" He gave up.
Alex closed his eyes, and minuets later the kid was snoring up a storm. I snickered quietly at how adorable the kids slept. Nya was snoring silently to herself, with her head against the window, Alize was slouching with her head against the other window, The baby was sleeping pretty cozy in his carseat, and Alex... well the kid fell asleep with his head against his carseat, and boy did they all look hilarious.
Looking back at the road, I gave my mom a quick glance. Her light brown hair was fading out and her dark brown roots were starting to show, her pale facial expression seemed tired, and stressed, which worried me, a lot.
"Mom, maybe we should pull over, and rest" I suggested.
Ok, maybe it wasn't the brightest idea, but it was the only thing I could come up with. I mean, I'd offer to drive, but I'm tired myself, plus my mom wouldn't let me drive anyway.
Something about me "being too young".
I inwardly scoffed. If anything, youth is the least of our problems."Its too dangerous" My mom said.
She quickly changed her expression from tired, to wide awake, but I knew her too well, I knew her so well, that I knew it was a mask.
She was very tired, and stressed. It made me want to help,
but how?
Thats the real question.
How can a fourteen year old like me help an adult who is too stubborn for her own good. Its just not possible.
I sighed.
"You need to rest, and plus, its not safe to drive when your tired." I said, trying to reason with her.
My mom stubbornly shook her head.
"Im fine" She said.
Just to reassure me, she grabbed a hold of my hand, and gave it a light squeeze. To top it off, she gave me a small smile.
I smiled back, but deep down, I knew just how tired and stressed she was, and I most definitely knew she was not fine.
It scared me, not once have I seen my mom look so.....old. Which is very weird, considering she was forty-three.
