We were riding through the town.

The air was warm, the sun was shining, and the roads were kind of busy. People were walking on the sidewalks, riding their bikes, kids were playing on the playgrounds, hell officers were eating their donuts. It all seemed normal, like the zombie apocalypse was just a dream, but it wasn't.

And I knew that, yet how come they didn't?

"Why haven't you guys left town, or boarded your houses up yet?" I asked, as we passed a community of yellow and white duplexes.

People were greeting each other with big smiles, and friendly tones. It made me yearn for my life back.

"They don't know" He whispered.

I looked behind my seat at the pale looking officer with blood on his dark blue uniform. His hands were stained red from the dry blood and it made me want to vomit.

I looked up at the officers face, he seemed so lost, and so perplexed. Yet at the same time there was a fire burning in the back of his light blue eyes, and it made me wonder if him and his diseased partner had a more intimate relationship.

It wasn't long after I zoned out on the blood on his hands that I looked back up at his face and noticed the tears in his eyes. I looked at Samantha who looked back at me, we both shared a look.

I gave her my pity look, and she rolled her eyes. She then gave me a shake of a head with a look telling me that she didn't trust him, or pity him.

I sighed.

"I'm sorry about your loss" I told the officer.

I watched as he looked down at his hands painfully and sniffle.

"I don't understand." I heard him whisper, his voice high from trying to hold back tears.

He sniffled again and sighed.

"Why would somebody do this?" He said frowning at his hands.

I turned my body more towards the back so I wouldn't be uncomfortable, I was about to respond to his comment but Sam beat me to it.

"They weren't humans you know." Sam said.

He looked up at Samantha, his golden blonde hair shining in the sun.

"Then what the hell were they?" He asked, his voice low.

Sam turned away from his glare and looked out of the car's window.

"Zombies" I answered for her, furrowing my eyebrows at her reaction to his question.

I then switched my gaze to the officer, who was looking at me like I was crazy.

"That's ridiculous, zombies aren't real" He said, passing a hand through his hair.

"They are now"

Silence soon followed after, so I just turned back around and stared out the window again.

"Where are we going?" The male officer asked my mom.

I chuckled.

"Good luck with getting an answer from her, I've been trying for three days" I said.

My mom glanced at me, glaring at me for a brief second before quickly turning her attention back on the road.

"Out of here. There are a lot of people here, which means, that when the zombies arrive they'll turn." My mom said, ending the sentence with a chilling tone.
