Also, the above pic is what I image he'd look like. (Also listen to Alex G when reading cause it kinda fits the vibe)

You were freshly 12, riding down the dirt road with Umito. Your father had told you to get home as soon as possible. A girl just your age, had been murdered the month before, and although an occurrence may not seem unusual to some places, it wasn't normal for rural towns like yours.

You had a feeling of dread, of course. It was unusual for such things to occur in small towns like yours, but you never imagined you could be a target. You always assumed you were somehow immune to the situation, that you were safe and sound. But didn't everyone?

Still, you hung out every day as usual, still passing the farmhouse in the tall grass field.

"There's no way there's actually ghosts in there, right?" Umito laughed nervously as he saw it caught your attention.

"No way, but do you ever wonder what's in there? I mean, it's probably dangerous, rusty nails and everything, but what's actually going to happen?" you laughed, looking at it like you were above it.

Umito walked up beside you, slinging an arm around your shoulder. "Let's go then. I mean, we won't be young forever, so let's go explore. No one we'll ever know, we won't break anything," he suggested. He always did seem to know what you were thinking.

"Defiantly. There's no way it's anything but ghost stories. Plus, it's private property, that's what really bugs my dad. There's nothing to do here, so we might as well, am I right?"

"Totally," he laughed, shaking you back and forth playfully before hopping back on his bike, urging you to follow.

That night, on your walkie talkies, the two of you crafted your master plan. It was a full moon, a super moon in fact. You wouldn't need to risk being caught with flashlight. There's no way anyone would see you leaving.

So that night, Umito climbed out of the window and ran down the street to your house. You waited outside the window, bright eyed at the adventure before you. He slid your window open, and held your hand, helping you down and out.

"Did my dad see you? I don't know if he fell asleep yet."

"I don't think so," he snickered, grabbing your hand as the two of you ran down the road together. Unnoticed by you, your father did see you, and giving a quick call to the Oohashi's and his brother, they'd find you in no time.

---

You felt your feet pound on the dirt road as your body pumped out adrenaline. Umito only held your hand tighter as he raced down the street. The two of you laughed as the moon lit your path, finally coming across a pre-broken patch in the fencing.

Umito helped you over, making sure you weren't cut like a true gentleman would. That inherent consideration was something you cherished deeply, a testament to his character that resonated with you. It wasn't a mere formality tied to your friendship; it was proof of Umito's innate empathy, a genuine concern that extended to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. A true hero.

You both walked down a pre-stomped tail, worn down by previous wanderers. It made the two of you feel a bit better knowing you weren't the first people to visit. Each step seemed to stretch into an eternity, making everything seem so much more real.

The air delicately tugged at the edge of your shirt, a crisp breeze passing over your skin. Your hair blow in the wind and the cool wind stung your lungs, with Umito by your side you weren't sure if a feeling could surpass it.

The wind dial on the farmhouse roof spun so loud you could barely feel yourself think. Something about the peaceful moment made you want to turn back. You were happy. Why venture into the unknown when the warmth of the present embraced you so tenderly? Despite the internal debate, you trudged onward, reaching the building's periphery and coaxing open the protesting door.
