The Fires Glow

As Sero arrived you explained Katsuki's parents were at the store getting supplies. They wanted you guys to have fun before training hard at the summer camp. Though most were ecstatic, and the camp would likely be the highlight of your summer, it was important to get your time in here first.

You sent the address to the family group chat, and within twenty minutes they arrived, bags and bags of groceries. The boys helped Masaru load the firewood and coals out of the back of the van, and you and Mina helped Mitsuki load out all of the food and clean off the grill.

"So, how was your afternoon," she said with a smile, taking out various condiments and burgers out of a plastic grocery bag. Mina looked at you with a giggle.

"Really good," she laughed, nudging your shoulder. You knew she was hinting something about Katsuki, but you weren't too sure what.

"I can't believe you all walked here. It had to have been at least eight miles," Masaru added, dropping the last bundle of wood.

"Well, we're going to be heroes after all," Kirishima said proudly, walking over to the few picnic tables you'd begun to gather at.

Katsuki brought a bag over to the charcoal grill, lighting a small fire in it, and watched as it turned a bright shade of orange. "We can handle the food, why don't you all go relax. Katsuki (y/n), would the two of you start a quick fire?" Mitsuki asked. Not really asking though.

"Got it!" You said enthusiastically, grabbing all the wood at once and leaving Katsuki with none. Then, stacking it all up, you grabbed a bit of kindling, and a fire starter before carefully lighting it. The two of you crouched beside it, watching it grow.

Then, you stacked some big fat logs on top, making sure to leave enough room for air to get in. "That was such great teamwork. Never thought I'd see the day," you teased, pointing out Katsuki's change in attitude even though you did all the work.

"I'll shove you into this fire if you don't shut the fuck up," he growled, obviously annoyed. You hopped up from the crouching positing and went back over to your towel to sunbathe with Mina for a little bit.

Katsuki walked by you, looking down with nothing but admiration. Mina, of course caught wind of this, giving Katsuki a little smirk but he'd had about enough. "Let's go," he said sternly, grabbing her wrist and roughly pulling her up, bringing her to the side.

"I don't know what kind of shit you think you're doing, but quit getting involved," he reprimanded. Mina sighed, looking to the side with obvious disappointment.

"Trust me, I'm doing more good than harm. You might actually have a good chance. You just got to show her you're interested."

"Like I'd take advise from you. Stay out of my shit," he hissed, walking back to the water where the other boys relaxed and talked.

"What was that all about?" you asked, a bit concerned and confused. Mina sighed, plopping back down onto her towel and sitting facing you.

"He's just mad that I still think you guys are perfect for each other, and he wants me to stop getting involved with it," she laughed.

"There's nothing to really get involved with," you laughed back, but Mina kind of got all serious, giving you a stern look.

"Be 100 percent honest with me this time, do you think you like him. Like at all?" she asked. Katsuki glared at her as the boys tried to drag him into the lake. Then he looked to you before quickly looking away.

"I-" you started, not really knowing how to respond. "I don't know," you asked, honestly more confused than anything.

"Trust me, you'll know when you do," she smiled. Mitsuki and Masaru announced that the food was done, and everyone walked up to the tables, thanking them for it of course. You grabbed your plate, sitting between Katsuki and Mina before digging in with everyone else.

Everyone talked and laughed, finally being able to relax for the first time in forever. The fire roared behind you. You and Mina both were the first to get up and walk to your bags. Grabbing hoodie and sweatpants, you put them over your now dry bathing suit.

The others followed as you all began to crowd around the fire. Katsuki sat close next to you, putting a hand behind your back as everyone began to talk. The fire crackled and danced beneath the now dark sky, casting a warm, golden glow on the faces of everyone. Everything began to feel lively as laughter filled the air, and the scent of burning wood filled your senses.

You couldn't help but look to Katsuki. His hair catching the light of the fire, the curve of his subtle smile, the glint in his red eyes as they mirrored the flames. His features were softened by the warm, orange hues, it was like the fire had chosen him as it's canvas.

A sudden breeze stirred the embers, sending sparks swirling into the night sky like fireflies. Your eyes met, and for a suspended moment, the world seemed to hold its breath. It was as if the flames had conspired to reveal something more profound, a sudden realization that the soft glow of your friendship had ignited into a different type of flame.

You understood his heart when he looked at you, the longing and love he seemed to hold with each glance, and you hoped it'd last forever. And as the night continued its dance around you, the fire witnessed the quiet blossoming of something new within you—an ember of affection that would linger long after the flames had faded, and for a moment you could have sworn you loved him.

A/N: The last line is basically her being like 'I love him' but like not all the way, or she hasn't fully accepted it.
