7th September
1998.The restoration of Hogwarts was achieved with relative ease through the utilisation of magical techniques, allowing the castle to once again stand majestically against the picturesque Scottish Highlands.
Although it bore the scars of recent challenges, it was infused with a revitalised spirit of hope and resilience. As September unfolded, numerous students returned to the institution to begin another academic year, filled with enthusiasm and anticipation, as leaves fell in the brisk autumn air, while the familiar sounds of laughter and conversation resonated as students reconnected with friends and settled back to the rhythm of academic life.
A number of us who were seventh-years previously have chosen to return, as our education was disrupted by the chaotic events of the past year, thus making us the inaugural cohort of eighth-years in the history of Hogwarts.
This unique opportunity to continue our studies and pass our N.E.W.T.s has brought a mix of emotions — excitement for the chance to delve deeper into our magical education, coupled with a sense of nostalgia as we reminisce about the friendships and experiences that have significantly influenced our lives.
All of my friends have returned, with the notable exceptions of Milly, Goyle, and Tracey. Obviously, their absence is profoundly felt, as we had all forged strong bonds during our years at Hogwarts. Each of them has their own reasons for not returning, and while I respect their decisions, I cannot suppress a twinge of melancholy regarding the incompleteness of our group; nonetheless, I take great pride in their individual pursuits.
Milly and Goyle have dedicated themselves to establishing a small business named Margarine's Teadom (a nod to her cat) in Diagon Alley. This contemporary tea shop uniquely allows people to interact with cats while enjoying their meals; the concept is both charming and innovative, creating a cosy atmosphere where visitors can sip on their favourite brews while serenading by the gentle purring of cats lounging about. Additionally, the shop offers not just tea but also a diverse array of products, including handcrafted art and knitted apparel, quickly becoming a beloved spot for locals and those who visit,
Each item reflects Milly's artistic flair and Goyle's meticulous attention to detail, making their offerings truly special. The venture has proven to be remarkably successful, attracting a steady stream of customers, particularly those who do not own pets, thereby boosting the business of the Magical Menagerie (a pet shop) as well, as demand for cats has surged. It's heartwarming to see how their passion has blossomed into a thriving business, and I often find myself daydreaming about visiting them, and sipping tea while surrounded by playful cats.
Tracey, on the other hand, had been presented with an opportunity to enrol in Magizoology courses that entail an expedition across Europe, Asia, and beyond. Even though Tracey was reluctant to accept the offer, particularly upon learning that most of us would be returning to Hogwarts; her reluctance was further compounded by her desire to remain close to her family, especially her father, who has who has recently shown significant improvement after the traumatic experience of becoming a Death Eater against his will to protect his family, yet, she still accepted the offer.
Despite her lack of enthusiasm for animals, her prior studies in Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts led to her invitation to these courses, aligning with her long-held aspiration to travel and explore; the thought of her traversing the globe, discovering magical creatures and cultures, fills me with excitement for her. An added benefit is that my cousin Selene is currently involved in overseeing the courses, which means they will have the chance to meet, and I have already advised Selene to look after Tracey in my correspondence. I know how much Tracey values her friendships, and I hope that Selene's presence will provide her with some comfort during the expedition.
