It has been a few weeks since the start of term, and I am so fed up with all this bullshit. Call me a nihilist, but every day is the same, there is no hope for anything good anymore. The Carrows have fucked it all up. Ironic isn't it? Snape is the Headmaster, but since he is hardly ever present at Hogwarts, the Carrows take his authority as co-deputy heads. I'm sure he knows about all the diabolical things the twins do, and I doubt he cares.
I truly believe that the twins just like to see people in pain. If anyone takes a step out of line, they are punished. And hell, it is far worse than Umbridge's torment. People physically scream at the punishments handed out by the Carrows, and when I say scream, I mean it can be heard all around the castle. Yesterday, while we were eating our breakfast, a high-pitched shriek distracted us all, and the most disturbing part was that it sounded as if a hand was covering the mouth, for the next screams were hushed.
So much for being a ruthless duo, they have no morality at all.
I mean, they're making students practice the Cruciatus Curse on the students who have landed themselves in predicaments, otherwise known as, detentions. It's fucking insane. That is why the other professors try to avoid referring 'misbehaving' students to the Carrows (they're the ones in charge of discipline). They believe these punishments aren't nearly as brutal, and they want them to act as a deterrent so that we behave. But the problem is, one can get in trouble for the most unreasonable reasons.
Not putting your head down when walking through hallways? Detention. Sharing non-pureblood viewpoints? Punishment. Defying the requests of superiors? Torture.
The requests are even more irrational, some even laughable. For example, a Carrow could ask a student to start mopping the floor, physically, without the use of magic. And if they refuse to do so, they will be tortured. It's public humiliating; sometimes when students walk past, they are hit with a laughter charm that only further intensifies the humiliation.
Of course, there are a few people who contradict the Carrows and oppose their rules, but, currently, there are fewer than before. Most people just sort of grew tired of trying to win a fight that will always be in favour of the causer. So, people have surrendered, and they started to become like every other ordinary student, following the stupid rules just to not end up in trouble. After all, anything is better than earning a detention with one of the Carrows. The least anyone wants is a bloody face and bruised body.
Fortunately, I am naturally liked by the twins, and I know all too well that they only favour me because of my title. Unlike Umbridge who did not care and believed herself to be my social superior. Nonetheless, I do not need anyone's adulation. Just because the twins like me does not mean I like them.
My first lesson of the day is double Muggle Studies, my personal hell. And it's not like I can drop it since it's compulsory.
Truth be told, these lessons are just becoming progressively worse after the curriculum cleanse the Carrows did. At least everything is better than Dark Arts, just sitting in one of those lessons makes me want to throw a curse at Amycus. Yet, Muggle Studies is still shit. It includes Alecto going on a ramble about how animalistic Muggles are and how Muggle-borns have stolen the magic from wizards, much like the propaganda the Daily Prophet sells after the Dark Lord's control over the Ministry.
Daphne and I walk with purpose to our lesson; we keep our heads down, like everyone else, and we keep a small distance from each other since the Carrow twins have forbidden any affectionate form of physical touch, even between friends. It's a pity, and it feels bizarre, that Daphne's arm isn't around mine, I've grown so used to her touch.
My eyes stay on the ground floor until I hear a thud and then an increasingly aggressive tone; that's when I turn my head to spot the commotion amongst the silent clones. Etain Haine broke the rule of keeping silent and is now threatening a young second-year girl, whom I recognise as Katie Fairfax. Judging by the three copies of advanced books on the floor, the girl must've bumped into Etain and dropped all her books.
