Quidditch is on.
Slytherins had won their past matches and now they are in the finals, against the Gryffindors.
I had been watching the Slytherin Quidditch training for a while now, they are really good but with one con. There are so many good Seeker options and Marcus Flint (captain) made the stupid decision to choose Malfoy in the second year. I don't understand what is stopping Flint from just booting the Slug, he belongs on the ground anyways.
The Slytherins play dirty to win. As Flint said, "I want to see the rotting, bruised corpses of our rivals. Let me down and you will all have to think about your funerals."
How inspirational.
I'm surprised that Flint hasn't lost his voice yet, he's constantly yelling all these motivating words in every training session.
There are seven players in Quidditch. Three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper and one Seeker.
The Slytherin team consists of Marcus Flint, Graham Montague and Adrian Pucey as Chasers. They try to keep possession of the Quaffle and score goals by throwing it at the opposing hoops.
Peregrine Derrick and Lucian Bole are the Beaters. They throw these heavy balls, Bludgers, to "knock out" the other team's Chasers. They carry a bat on them to block any Bludgers hitting their team's players.
Miles Bletchley is the Keeper so he makes sure the Quaffle keeps out of all three hoops. Otherwise, the other team scores points.
Malfoy is the disappointment of the team as Seeker. His role is to catch the Golden Snitch. Any Seeker that catches it then the game automatically ends with their team being awarded 150 points. The team still has a chance to win if Malfoy doesn't manage to catch the Snitch and lose to Potter. Slytherins are overall already leading by 200 points, so they have an advantage.
To match the game, I'm wearing green to show my support along with everyone else in the Slytherin section.
Dumbledore makes a small introduction, talking about how this is the last Quidditch game of the year and blah, blah, blah. The chanting starts again once the man finished his little speech.
"Go, go, Gryffindor!"
"Slither, slither, Slytherin!"
Flint walks confidently onto the pitch, leading the Slytherins. Oliver Wood, the Gryffindor captain, walks out with the rest of his teammates.
Madam Hooch has the two captains shake hands. They both comply, Flint crushes Wood's hand. I bet if the pitch is silent then you can hear the bones in Wood's hands crack and snap.
Hooch blows her whistle, sending the Quaffle into the air. Almost instantly, Angelina Johnson zooms past on her broom, catching the Quaffle for Gryffindor. Both Derrick and Bole send Bludgers her way, to which the Weasley twins defend and block the incoming attacks. Pucey nearly gets wiped out by one of the Weasleys, and Montague tries to catch up to Johnson.
The commentator, Lee Jordan, a fifth-year Gryffindor with dreadlocks screams at the top of his lungs. "JOHNSON SCORES, SHE SCORES! TEN POINTS TO GRYFFINDOR! WONDERFUL WOMAN I'M TELLING YOU!"
Professor McGonagall is next to him, glaring at him.
Bletchley sends the Quaffle back out again, Pucey catching it. Alicia Spinnet is at the end of his broom, catching up to him. Oh, ouch. Flint smashes into her, nearly knocking her off her broom. He claims it was an accident as Hooch takes him off the pitch, the game continues with Flint being let off free and Spinnet a tad pissed off.
"All the Slytherins don't seem to care for Flint's long history of being unmistakenly violent on the pitch." Jordan shakes his head. "They are more interested to see the outcome of the game, like most of us. Including Lord Harlow and his very noticeable sister. Lady Harlow, pretty isn't she?"
"Jordan! Are you here to commentate or to pick up girls?" McGonagall loudly scolds.
I laugh beside Daphne at Jordan's obvious way of trying to get my attention.
"Both Professor — all right, only joking — Pucey with the Quaffle — Passes Montague — Come on, Johnson! Oh!"
Johnson tried to block Montague but a dangerous Bludger had almost destroyed her. The Weasley twins send their Bludgers at Bole and Derrick, which is not allowed in any game. Beaters can't attack other Beaters.
"Foul! Foul!" The Slytherins holler.
A penalty is given, and Flint roughly manages to score against the Gryffindor's captain and Keeper, Wood. We are now in a tie, 10-10. Katie Bell tries to pass the Quaffle to Spinnet before Montague sends Bell to the ground.
"THAT IS A FOUL! HOOCH MUST CALL FOR A PENALTY!" Jordan shouts against his megaphone, a Muggle device to enhance a voice. "YOU CHEAT!" He's biased, he wasn't like this when the Weasleys sent Bludgers to our Beaters.
Professor McGonagall's voice emits through the megaphone, "Jordan! What have I said about commentating fairly!"
"I am!"
The booing from the Slytherins increase but, Hooch still hands out a penalty.
Bletchley does a good job at blocking Johnson's Quaffle from going into a hoop.
The game continues and Bell is still in the game as she isn't seriously hurt. Montague scores ten points and the Slytherins are leading, about time. Derrick hits Spinnet with a Bludger, she continues to play using her left arm instead of right. Montague tricks Johnson as he drops the Quaffle from his hands, Flint catches it from underneath and is about to give it to Pucey to score a goal when Johnson intercepts and catches the Quaffle between the pass. Bad move, Pucey and Flint both crush the girl from left and right, squishing the ball out of her hands. Yikes. Flint scores.
Whole point of this Quidditch match is to kill all the Gryffindors, the rougher and sneakier, the better. Wood saves, Bell earns a goal, Montague scores. Back and forth, back and forth. Tension is high as Slytherins are leading by ten points, 50-40. The Slytherins start to play dirtier, using violent tactics. One Weasley is defending Bell and the other defending Spinnet and Johnson. Pucey is in possession of the Quaffle, about to throw it in a goalpost when Bole randomly sends a Bludger in his direction. Oh, never mind. Bole sent a Bludger in Wood's direction.
The Gryffindors gasp as Wood starts to become light-headed. Pucey scores another goal. Wood holds his broom in his hand, on the ground, assuring Hooch that he is fine and for the game to carry on. Ah! Is he dead?
His body falls onto the floor, he's completely unconscious. Bole had managed to knock out the Gryffindor Keeper.
Jordan gasps louder than everyone, "OLIVER WOOD IS DOWN! I REPEAT, OLIVER WOOD IS DOWN! THAT IS AN ILLEGAL ATTACK! YOU DIRTY, FILTHY CHEAT!"
Hooch is furious with Bole, taking him off the game for his illicit and dangerous activity. Another penalty to Gryffindor, Bell scores. The game carries on, we should have an advantage seeing as there is no one to block the goalposts. Johnson earns another ten points for Gryffindor, putting us all in a tie. 60-60.
Potter and Malfoy are both trying to claim the Snitch. The Snitch dashes quicker than any broom ever made and it flies (not even two meters away) right past my face. Malfoy chases after it with sharp eyes. I catch a glimpse of his face, his jaw is tight and his hand reaches out trying to catch the whizzing, walnut-sized ball. Potter tries to gain some speed, as desperate as Malfoy to win.
My attention diverts back to the Slytherins cheering, Flint has now made the score 70-60.
Because there is no Gryffindor Keeper, Flint takes the Quaffle and quickly passes it to Pucey. The second the Weasley twins left Spinnet alone, Derrick successfully releases a Bludger at her, knocking her instantly off her broom. Bell steals the ball off Pucey but doesn't manage to get past Bletchley. Johnson having high security from two gingers, tries to earn a goal but fails. With the wicked skills of the three Slytherins Chasers, they all score us an additional 30 points. 100-60, Slytherin undoubtedly won this match.
Jordan curses through the megaphone and pulls at McGonagall for confirmation. "I want justice. Malfoy caught the Snitch, 150 points to the cheaters. Sorry, Professor, I meant the foul — fine, the Slytherins. The Slytherins win the Quidditch Cup. I'm quitting this, find me in the Ministry standing up for rights."
Apart from the bitter commentator and sulky Gryffindors, the Slytherins erupt with cheers. The team holds the cup in glory.
"NO NEED TO PLAN YOUR FUNERALS!"
