Beccas POV

I'm sitting happily eating my lunch when Alora suddenly nudges my side with her elbow.

She snickers, turning her phone towards me to look at it. On her screen, I see a picture of an ugly mustard-coloured turtle neck, with a purple cartoon wolf in the middle of it.

"You'd look great in this," Alora snickers, barely holding back her laugh, and I roll my eyes. "You're hilarious," I mutter before focusing back on my lunch.

Me and Alora are outside on the picnic bench we've practically claimed over the years we've attended this school.

I'm trying to eat my lunch peacefully, and as usual, Aloras is being an annoying bitch.

"Alora? Becca?".

We both look up and only then do I notice the two people stopped in front of our bench.

The new kids.

Lynn and AJ.

Lynns smiling at us, while AJ looks pissed, wearing a scowl on his face.

"Alora" My sister mumbles from beside me. "Becca" I copy, and Lynn smiles again.

"We were put together for that project?" She says, mainly looking at Alora. I was unfortunate enough to be paired with the asshole beside her.

"Yep" Alora mutters, not bothering to hide the fact she's not pleased with this arrangement. If Lynn notices this- which I'm sure she does, she doesn't let it bother her.

"Great. This school has a library right? Are you two free after school?" She then asks.

Reluctantly, we nod. The last thing I want to do is stay late after school- but I suppose avoiding the task at hand won't help anything.

"Great. See you two later then" She flashes us yet another smile, while AJ has already turned around and is walking away.

"Well, aren't you cranky this morning?" I faintly hear Lynn says with a laugh as she follows him before they both disappear back inside the school.

"I hate this," I say as I stare at the door they disappeared through.

We keep to ourselves- we always have.

We don't have any other friends- and we don't want them either.

I don't like that we're being forced to spend time with the fucking new kids. And I especially don't like our teacher for making us do it in the first place.

"This should be fun" Alora sighs, tone dripping in sarcasm just as the bell rings signalling lunch is over.

***

The two hours from lunch to the end of school has been more than enough time for me to learn how to dread this more, so when me and Alora walk into the library, I'm in a worse mood than before.

We spot our partners sitting around one of the circular tables almost immediately. AJ sits leaned back in his chair, earplugs in and eyes closed- and of course, his arms folded over his chest. Lynn sits opposite him, flicking paper balls at him.

I watch as one hits him on the eyelid. His jaw clenches, but he doesn't say a word- doesn't even open his eyes. He just kicks Lynn under the table, making her laugh.

As we start to walk over, he opens his eyes, and they immediately lock with mine.

I don't look away as we reach the table- some petty part of me doesn't want to lose the battle of who would look away first.

Lynn smiles when she sees us. "Ready?" She asks Alora, standing up out of her chair.

Alora glances at me before sighing. "Yes".
