Beccas POV

I can't sleep.

Again.

I'm back in my own bed- the bottom bunk, staring straight up like before.

Alora secretly helped me check for any more spiders earlier, since we both share the fear and she understands why I don't want to broadcast it. I'd rather die than ask AJ to check my fucking bed for spiders.

So, very cautiously, me and my sister checked and found no eight-legged intruders. Regardless, I went to bed with socks on tonight, so if a spider does crawl on me I won't feel it.

Ignorance is bliss.

Although the thought of spiders crawling on me without my knowledge is arguably worse.

The sound of soft even breaths fills the air yet again. I turn my head, staring at Lynn and Alora's bunk.

Alora is at the bottom this time. She fell asleep at the campfire, and Lynn carried her back.

I'll admit, I thought their friendship was innocent enough.

Then I looked over at them during the campfire while AJ ate a s'more, and saw my sister asleep in Lynn's arms.

I saw the look in Lynn's eyes as she carried Alora back. And she has the same look as she helped me put Alora's hair into a bonnet while she slept.

I'm starting to wonder if maybe it is more than friendship-

I get the fright of my life when AJ suddenly jumps down off his bed.

He does it quietly- clearly being careful not to wake anyone up. But seeing a body drop down gave me quite the shock.

He glances at me, and sends me a look of surprise when he spots me sitting up on my elbows watching him. "Why are you awake?" He whispers.

"Why are you awake?" I scowl back. Why is he asking me that?- I'm not the one jumping all over the place.

AJ shrugs his shoulders a bit, and I sigh, losing my scowl. "Where are you going?" I ask quietly.

"The lake," AJ tells me. I stare at him, seeing he's being serious. I then lift my covers and get out of the bed. "You might drown" I mumble.

"And you'll make sure I won't?" He whispers with his signature small smile. I shrug my shoulders in response, and he just chuckles as he grabs his shoes on his walk to the door.

I copy him, carrying them out and making sure to close the door quietly. It was surprisingly not as cold as earlier as we stood outside our cabin and put on our shoes, before heading in the direction of the lake.

It's a short walk, and I must admit, it's a nice view.

The sky is clear of all clouds, and the moon and the stars shine down, reflecting off the water.

"What's your obsession with visiting large bodies of water at night?" I ask him quietly as we walk down the wooden dock that stands out of the lake. It's so quiet out here, speaking normally would be too loud.

AJ chuckles a bit as we stop near the end of the dock. "Everything's better at night", He says in response, and as I look out at the moon's reflection on the water, I can't help but agree. The view is prettier than it was before.

I glance at AJ again, seeing him staring out with a small smile on his face. He doesn't appear tense, and his usual bored look isn't present for once. He seems..relaxed.

"Enjoying the small things again?" I ask quietly, remembering our conversation at the beach that day. He wears a similar expression to the one he wore that day.
