Aloras POV
After breakfast, we spent the next few hours doing non-stop activities.
Kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, fishing. The list went on, and although it was fun for the most part, we got no break, leaving us all exhausted.
Naturally, after a day of swimming in a lake, everyone wanted to shower.
That's when the problems started.
There are over one hundred students on this camping trip.
And only two outdoor showers.
If you can even call it that. It is two little wooden shacks side by side with a door, that pours ice cold water on your head.
The dozens of people waiting outside in a queue get a perfect view of your ankles and feet- and your head if you're too tall, while you try not to go into shock from the cold. It doesn't help that it's freezing outside- you know, since it's winter and all.
We waited in line for nearly forty minutes, and I only spent five minutes in there. Tops. And three of those minutes were me getting dressed.
I think I'm traumatised.
If I had my phone, I would have called Dad to vent to him as we waited in the cue, because I wanted to cry when I saw what I was supposed to use as a shower.
I wrap my arms around myself to try to stop my body from shaking as the four of us walk back into our cabin after walking back in silence. I think we're all in shock.
"I might need therapy after that" I announce quietly as AJ closes the door to our cabin since he was last in.
"Jesus Christ- I think the lake water was warmer" Becca mumbles, her teeth chattering while she visibly trembles.
Whoever decided a lake trip was a good idea during late December, fuck you.
"It was" I mumble, leaning against her in hopes being close will warm us quicker.
"Reminds me of the good old days" Lynn says quietly to AJ, flashing him a weak smile as she nudges his arm. He lets out a breathless laugh. "Don't remind me".
"What?" I mumble, confused as to what they're talking about. "Our shower in our last apartment always broke" She clears her throat, looking down at the floor.
"And it was that cold? You poor thing" I mumble, making her smile.
AJ mumbles something to Lynn, just as Becca whispers something to me. "You can borrow a pair of leggings from me" She mumbles, and I nearly cry with relief. She knows I was stupid enough to only bring shorts.
I move and start rummaging through her bag, while she sits down on her bed.
I find a pair of sweatpants she probably packed as pyjamas and steal them instead. Not giving a single shit about how it may look, I tug them on top of my shorts.
When I turn back to Becca, I see AJ now sitting beside her with his arm over her shoulder.
She leans into his side, her eyes closed and her jaw still chattering. I smile gently at them, noticing how AJ is looking at her rather worriedly.
I leave them be, and notice Lynn is gone. But the bathroom door is open.
I peek my head in, seeing her stand in front of the small mirror above the sink, attempting to dry her hair with a towel, despite her hands that are shaking.
Thanks to pure and utter determination, me and Becca managed to keep our hair from getting wet in the lake. And in the shower from hell, we wore shower caps.
