Alora's POV

I let out a sigh, struggling not to fall asleep as Ms Green waffles on about some test next week.

Becca, who's sitting beside me as usual, looks like she's about to go in insane, just as bored as me.

Ms. Green turns her back as she writes on the whiteboard. Not having anything else to do, I take out my phone and text Lynn, who is a no-show this morning. Same with AJ.

Me: Where are you?

Lynn: work
Lynn: Be there for third period
Lynn: try not to miss me too much

I chuckle as I stare at the text.

Me: Oh, I'll try

Lynn: Text me if the pain gets too unbearable

Rolling my eyes playfully, I put my phone away just as I notice Becca staring, shooting me a questioning look.

Ignoring her, I fold my arms on the table and put my head down, wishing time would move fast for once.

"So what did you get on your project?" Lynn asks Becca from beside me at lunch while I shovel a handful of M&Ms in my mouth.

Although we only handed the projects in on Monday, she already had them corrected and handed them back this morning.

Our teacher is one of the only ones to correct projects and exams quickly, so getting our projects back four days later isn't really surprising.

"Eighty," Becca shrugs, and I bite back my smile. "Eight-one" Lynn doesn't bother hiding her grin.

Becca scoffs, flipping Lynn off while she laughs.

"Don't worry, Becca, she got twelve percent on the maths test-". Lynn gasps, cutting me off.

"Hey! I told you I fell asleep." She points her finger at me, making me snort while she glares playfully.

She then leans closer. "And I told you that out of secrecy," She whispers, smiling amused at me. "You're breaking my heart here - betraying my trust like this." She continues being dramatic as usual, and I can't help but play along.

I put a hand on her arm. "You want me to kiss it better?" I ask teasingly, and she hums. "Are you offering?".

Smiling, I don't reply and focus on eating my lunch while Lynn laughs beside me.

I lock eyes with Becca, seeing her staring surprised. Before I can ask her what's wrong, my attention is stolen by the guy who sits down beside her.

"Why are you always last to join us when we're in the same class?" Lynn asks, and AJ just shrugs, running a hand through his messy hair.

I then notice how our seating has changed.

Without us even realising, we've shifted. Becca now sits beside AJ while I sit beside Lynn.

I sigh, knowing it's official.

We have friends.

Although it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

"I was just telling Becca how we got eighty-one on our project." Lynn smiles at him. "Tell me...what did you two get again?" She whispers, barely containing a laugh.

AJ rolls his eyes at her while Becca stares at her amused. "What did you get on that maths test again?" She fires back, and I snort as I look to see Lynn's reaction.

She chuckles. "Seven more than he did." AJ rolls his eyes yet again while both me and Becca turn to him.

"Five percent, huh?" Becca smiles. AJ scoffs before ignoring us all and taking a sip from his water bottle instead.
