Beccas POV
Silence.
Pure silence.
I'm still trying to decipher whether it's awkward or not.
I hear laughing coming from the table near us, and I look, seeing Lynn putting her head down on the table, shaking with laughter while Alora has her hands covering her face, laughing as well.
I roll my eyes at them. They were quiet for the first twenty minutes, but that was it.
I seriously wonder how they're getting any work done.
I look at AJ, seeing him not paying them any attention as he writes his part.
When we first started, I was still annoyed.
I know it wasn't their fault they were late- hell, I would have wasted a lot more than ten minutes arguing if I got dress coded for showing my fucking shoulders.
But see, I was already pissed due to dealing with my maths teacher Ms Parker last class, so my bad mood turned into a shitty one.
AJ- clearly, was still pissed off, so in order to not destroy the tiny bit of peace we had formed over the last few days, we fell into silence and stayed there.
It's a good thing though. We're all behind on this project, and it's due Monday. We don't have the time to argue.
AJ is a pretty decent partner when he's not talking. He's pretty slow at writing, but I don't care as long as he's helping.
I watch him as he glances between the book he's reading from and the page he's writing on. His jaw then clenches, before he glances at me.
He rolls his eyes, something he fucking loves doing, before grabbing the eraser and erasing whatever mistake he made.
I look over at Alora and Lynn, curious as to what they're even talking about. And how Lynn even got Alora to talk so much.
"Drink?".
I glance, seeing AJ staring at me.
I look at him confused, and he just nods his head to the vending machine in the corner. "Drink?" He repeats, and I hide my surprise.
"Coke please," I say, and he hums, standing up. He's rather quiet when he's not pissed.
"Grab me a water please!" Lynn yells over, and AJ turns, glaring at her. "We're in a fucking library Lynn- quit yelling" He scolds her, and she just grins.
"Make that two please" Is all she says. AJ mutters something under his breath as he walks to the vending machine, and I hold back my laughter as he goes.
It's rather amusing watching him and Lynn bicker. Well- it is mostly Lynn pissing him off, and him glaring at her for it. They remind me of siblings.
I watch as AJ walks back with two bottles of coke, and two bottles of water.
He places both bottles of Coke on our table, and I shoot him a small smile. "Thanks," I tell him, and he nods slightly, before looking to the others.
"Lynn," He says, and I watch as he throws the bottle of water at her.
It hits her right in the arm, and she scowls immediately. "Fucker!" She snaps.
I can't hold back my smile this time, and much to my surprise, it seems like AJ can't either.
I look at him, seeing a smile on his face as he chuckles quietly to himself.
I'm oddly aware of the fact that this is the first time I've seen this guy smile.
I watch as he walks over and gently tosses the other bottle to Alora, narrowly avoiding a pencil Lynn threw at him on his way back.
I'm still slightly stunned by the time he comes back to the table. Both by the fact he smiled and that I'm so aware of it.
Clearing my throat, I clear my head of these stupid thoughts and grab the bottle of Coke from the table.
Opening it, I watch in slow motion as it fizzes up.
Before I can even think of what to do- I'm being sprayed with coke.
Cursing, I hold the bottle away from me, but it's already too late by that point. My once-white tank top is now wet and stained an odd brown colour.
I curse again when I see the piece of our project I was working on got sprayed as well.
And I freeze when I see AJ staring at me.
Unable to help but feel slightly embarrassed, I glare at him, my defences going up immediately. "What?" I mutter, not appreciating his staring.
He should just...not stare.
He sighs and stands up. "Come on" Is all he says, before walking towards the exit.
Sighing, I place the bottle on an empty part of the table and follow him, since I need to go to the bathroom to clean the sticky drink off my hands.
I'm curious as to where AJ is leading me, and when he stops at a locker- his locker and fucking pulls out a black hoodie, I'm dumbstruck.
He stares at the hoodie in his hand, looking a bit unsure, before he clears his throat and hands it out to me.
I bite my tongue, fighting off the stubborn part of me that tells me to reject his offer. I force my hand to move and grab it, still in a state of shock.
First, he buys me a drink, then he gives me a fucking hoodie.
Who the hell is this- because it certainly isn't AJ.
He closes his locker while I clear my throat. "Thanks" I mumble, and he nods a bit, looking quite awkward.
Without another word, I walk to the bathroom.
After washing my hands, I change into his hoodie, because as much as I hate it, I'd rather wear his hoodie than walk around in a stained tank top that's turned slightly see-through now that it's wet.
When I walk out of the bathroom, I see AJ leaning against his locker waiting for me.
His eyes find mine as I walk over. I'm not sure how our little eye-contact battles became such a regular thing, but I've never lost one, and I don't plan to.
As usual, AJ looks away first.
As I stop beside him, he pushes off the locker and glances around the empty hallway.
"Thanks," I say again. "No problem" He mumbles, before clearing his throat and walking off in the direction of the library.
I don't fight the small smile that forms on my lips as I follow him back.
When we return to the library, Lynn and Alora seem to have noticed our disappearance, since they stare at us confused as we walk back in.
"Where did you two go?-"
"Who's hoodie is that?" Alora, of course, is the one to notice first. She stares at me with wide eyes, since we all know whose hoodie it is.
"Is that your hoodie?" Lynn blurts out, seeming genuinely shocked, which is a new expression for her.
AJ rolls his eyes and walks back to the table without another word.
"My bottle of coke sprayed everywhere. He gave me his hoodie" I say casually, even though it's not a fucking casual thing. I had the same reaction they did.
Lynn is still staring at me in shock, while Alora's surprise is long gone, and replacing it is a look of pure amusement and a small smile to match it.
I shoot her a look, silently warning her to fuck off before I walk back over to AJ at our table.
We then return to working in silence.
Comfortable silence.
