Two Feet- I Feel Like I'm Drowning
"We need to talk about what happened with Aldrick," Noah says. He looks around and motions us out of the furniture store. "Killian went by his place. He's been calling him and there's no sign of him. They're thinking about reporting him missing. I told them we had to wait the required forty-eight hours and if he hasn't reached out by then, we'll start looking,"
"I have his phone," I reach for it in my purse. He snatches it out of my hand.
"Gaz, why the fuck are you walking around with this in your purse?" he all but shouts at me. I laugh.
"And leave it somewhere someone can just stumble upon it? No. It stays with me until further notice," I take it back. His eyes stay focused on me for a moment. The silver in his eyes swirls around angrily. "What? Do you have something to say to me?"
"You haven't had your fucking powers for twenty-four hours yet and we already have a fucking body," he says angrily.
"Okay," I roll my eyes.
"Tell me what happened," he demands.
"It wasn't Gaz," Zuri says before I can say anything. He glances over at her and then turns his pretty gems back to me. I'd forgotten how much I love pissing him off. Noah always has a way of making me feel alive with all his hate for me.
"What happened?"
"He-" she can't look up at him.
"It doesn't matter," I say. "He should have been dead a long time ago and that's all you need to know. The less you know, the less likely you'll lose your job. Do your investigation shit by the book. If either of us are implicated, you know where to find us. If you insist on asking more questions, call my lawyer," I hold up a card. "Blessed be, Noah,"
"Gaz," he grips my arm stopping me from walking away.
"I'll be in the car," Zuri excuses herself.
"Get off me," I glare at him. He immediately lets me go.
"I'm sorry. You get how this looks,"
"Yeah, and just like everyone else, you're quick to jump to conclusions. It's always been that way with you. I'm this fucking plague on your life. Something you can't get rid of. Being unwanted isn't new to me, Noah. I don't want your apologies. I don't need you trying to get me back into the coven. I'm not rejoining. I don't need a fucking thing from you,"
"I watched you strike down a man with a bolt of lightning when I was thirteen years old, Gaz," he says when I turn away. "I know you'd do anything for the people you love. You put your reputation together and then you wanted us to accept it. I did what I believed was the right thing for my mate.
"Don't fucking stand there and act like you didn't deserve what you got. You can't fuck up your life and then act like a victim, Gaz. That's not how the world works. Own up to your choice, baby. No one is to blame but yourself,"
He walks past me and gets into the black BMW where Spencer is waiting for him. When he looks up at me again, Noah just shakes his head disappointedly. I get into my car and check my watch.
"We should get something to eat," Zuri says after a while of us just sitting here.
"What are you in the mood for?" I ask starting the car. How much of that did she hear? Am I going to lie to her or do I just tell her the truth?
"Are you buying?" she smirks. "Cause if you're buying let's go to Witch Hazel's,"
"We cannot go to Witch Hazel's dressed like this and without Mom. Pass," I shake my head.
