Blue October- Hate Me
Pantsuits suck. I hate these things, but Cody said if I wore a skirt it would be too sexual. Especially since I am gaining weight and muscle steadily. I've been sore for days with her daily morning workouts. The only thing I control at the moment is what I eat and I'm not actually too upset with any of it.
"Cute," Zuri points at my polka dot outfit. She fixes my tie and smiles. "Okay, this meeting with the lawyers is going to be intense. Mom and Celestia have to be present. Try not to lose your temper, yeah?"
"Best behavior, Little Mouse," Cody orders. "You too," she pats Zuri on the head. "Try to be less squirrelly,"
"I'm not squirrelly," she swats her away. When she looks back at me her eyes are huge. "Am I squirrelly?"
"No," I shake my head. Yeah, she can be very squirrelly.
"Why does she compare us to rodents? That's a little weird, right? Little mouse,"
"Don't call me that," I warn her.
I straighten my jacket and brush my hand over the front of me. Noah is gonna be here as well and I haven't seen him in a few days. I'm a little nervous. I am fucking pathetic. I know, but I can't help it. He's all I think about in that house. I check the login book Ahsan gave me the name of. If they accept it, it could prevent my mom, sister, and a whole lot of witches from the death penalty.
"I'm scared," Zuri takes my hand and grips it tightly.
"They're ready," Beverly waves us into the council room.
She pushes the door open and lets us inside. There's a huge rectangular table in the center. The six lawyers I'm paying are gathered around but the only ones sitting are my mother, Celestia, and Noah. My mom and Cel are both wearing orange jumpsuits. Noah's is navy. All three of them light up when they see the two of us.
"Gaz," Carson greets us. He and Ahsan come over and hug us.
"Do you have it?" Ahsan asks. I take the book out and hand it to him. He hugs me again and takes it over to the lawyers. They all greet me with a handshake and follow after him to get a look at it.
"Holy shit, what are you eating?" Noah asks. He wraps his arms around me.
"What?"
"It's a compliment, Gaz," he kisses the top of my head. "You look really good,"
"I hate myself for saying it, but blue is your color," we both laugh. Zuri goes over to my mom and sister. They hug her awkwardly and turn to look at me. Neither of us knows what to say apparently so we don't.
We all take a seat and wait for the lawyers to review the books.
"The information you sent me is interesting," Carson says. I tap my lips and shake my head.
"What information?" Noah asks looking between us.
"Gaz sent us proof that some of the inmates in the prison are alive but thought to be dead," Carson lies smoothly. "Some of the directors are pissed,"
"Do you guys know why?" he asks.
"Not yet, but maybe it has to do with the fact that they're the last of their bloodlines. To conserve their heritage under the radar and use their magic the way they tried to use Gastly's,"
"This just gets better and better," Noah says annoyed.
"Right," Carson agrees wholeheartedly. I elbow Noah when he glares at him.
"You were quick to forgive him," my mother says without looking in our direction, but the snide is obviously directed at me. I choose to ignore her. It wasn't that long ago that she was trying her hardest to get us here. I doubt any parent is happy with any of their children's decisions. Ever.
